I'm having trouble getting Sprites and Lumina is almost Orange heart and i have about 49

Answer
Here is a list of the easiest sprites to find on Harvest Moon DS (try copying and pasting it to a document for printing/better viewing):

1. Guts: You will acquire this Sprite in the first scene with the Witch Princess.

2. Neptune (Brown Team): Available from the start.

3. Mercury (Black Team): In your first scene with Guts, Mercury will be found.

4. Karaf: Press A next to your watering pond and he will appear.

5. Jet: Press A from the northern side of Van's orange crate at the end of
the corridor on the second floor of the Inn.

6. Jum: Press A next to the fountain in Romana's courtyard.

7. Tep: Press A in front of the stove on the western side of the Inner Inn.

8. Hops: Press A in front of the Well and he will appear.

9. Jackie: Try to leave the village by going east along the path to Mineral Town.

10. Riviera: Cast your fishing rod into your watering hole. (N.B. You
cannot do this from a distance by using a Necklace. You must be standing AT
the watering hole.)

11. Uranus: Raise one person's FP to 100

12. Misty: Fill your watering can 10 times. (N.B. You can do this again and
again without emptying the watering can.)

13. Spirity: Buy 1 Drink at the Blue Bar.

14. Roller: On 8 Spring, walk east across the bridge towards Vesta's farm.
(N.B. Roller is the Sprite who will open the Casino. Although you can find
the dealers for the Casino games on the first day of gameplay, the Casino will
not open until you have rescued Roller and he CANNOT be rescued any earlier.)

15. Veggie: Buy the Basket from Karen's Supermarket and place an item in it.

16. Venus: Purchase an item from Karen's Supermarket for 10 days.

17. Anime: Eat 30 pieces of wild grass. (Hold item in your hands, then press
the X button to eat it.)

18. Kamar: Ship 1 Cabbage.

19. Kali: Pick up your animals 50 times without using the touch Glove.
(Dog and Cat are included here.)

20. Mouton (Yellow Team): Use the Touch Glove 50 times to pet your Animals.

21. Earth: Rescue 20 Sprites.

The next group of Sprites listed may be rescued in a different order as the
order will depend on how often you perform the required task and, in the case
of two of the Sprites, the season of the year.

22. Beta: Wash your animals 50 times using the Brush and Touch Glove.

23. Sue: Collect Milk 100 times using the Touch Glove (In other words,
obtaining 100 bottles at once with a Level 100 Milker will not rescue this Sprite.)

24. Moor: Ship 1 Pineapple.

25. Vail: Ship 1 Pepper.

26. Souly: Buy 50 drinks at the Blue Bar.

27. Powery: Eat 80 pieces of Wild Grass.

28. Paige: Catch 50 fish.

29. Tilus: Destroy 100 small rocks with your Hammer.

30. Bran: Chop 100 branches with your Axe.

31. Saturn: Participate in 3 Festivals. (This includes eating a dish
prepared by Kai at the Beach Festival, so if you enter a Chicken in the Chicken
Festival and a Cow in the Cow Festival, Saturn will appear on Tuesday morning
after the Cow Festival.)

32. Fraw: Place 1000 items in your shipping container. (This will result in
the gift of a horse from Takakura as well.) N.B. Shipping 1000 pieces of bird
seed purchased from Popuri is a quick and inexpensive method of acquiring the
horse in the first week of gameplay. You can ship weeds but it will take
longer to collect 1000 weeds.

33. Kevin: Place an item in your horse's saddlebags. (Ship 1000 items to
receive the horse as a gift.)

34. Mars: Ship at least 300 of a single type of item produced on your farm
(crops, fruit, flowers or ranch products, but no processed items) (If you
upgrade your Milker by using it repeatedly, you can obtain 99 or 100 small
milks each time you use it to milk a cow. If you do not upgrade your milker,
you probably can ship 300 yams in your first Autumn without much trouble, as
they yield multiple harvests frequently.)

35. Fisher: Upgrade your Fishing Rod to Mystrile and use it.

36. Forest: Upgrade your Scythe to Mystrile and use it.

37. Valie: Upgrade your Axe to Mystrile and use it.

38. Roli: Upgrade your Watering Can to Mystrile Level, then use it.

39. Jupiter: Purchase 5 Records from Jet at the Sprite Company Shop

40. Yacht: Cast your Fishing Rod in the Duck Pond (Gotz must build this.)

41. Boohoo: Use the Touch Glove 100 times to pet your Animals.

42. Oran: Give Thomas the item he requests on 2 Winter

43. Decoy: Chop 250 branches with your Axe.

44. Stone: Smash 250 stones with your Hammer.

45. Pierre: Split 15 stumps with your Axe.

46. Alpen: Smash 5 large smooth stones with your Hammer.

47. Rocky: Smash 15 large smooth stones with your Hammer.

48. Wooly: Ship at least 300 combined Milk, Eggs and/or Wool.

49. Mick: Have a total of 10 Chickens and Ducks. You will need 3 Bird Barns
for them.

50. Red Ribbon: Have a total of 10 adult Cows

How do I potty train my dachshund when shes already 2 years old!?!?!?

SLK.

My dog roxy is a female miniature dachshund (doxhound) and no matter how much i i try i cant get her to stop going to the bathroom in the house and if i cant get her to stop my parents arent gonna let me keep her..... suggestions?

Answer
Same way I potty train even older dachshunds I rescue, even when they have never been potty trained.

First, make sure your dog does not have a urinary tract infection or physical problem of any kind that makes her go unusually often - get her checked out by a vet if there is any doubt.

Crate your dog or baby gate her off into a room where there is no carpet when you can't watch her until she is potty trained - that will keep your parents from getting upset.

You MUST neutralize the odor - not just clean and deodorize, but NEUTRALIZE everywhere she has ever pottied in the house, carpets especially. You buy pet stain neutralizer in pet shops, even most Walmarts and supermarkets have some.
If you do not do this, your dachshund can still smell where she went before and will always think this is her potty place - you must neutralize all the odors she has left.

Then you get your dachsie on a schedule. Potty walk first thing when she gets up, within 10 minutes after she eats, every couple of hours if you possibly can.
If she doesn't potty on her walk, do NOT let her roam free in the house.

How long is to long for a dog to be in a crate?

Melissa C

We just got a rescue dog with problems potty traning. We have school during the day and need to keep her in her crate so she wont make a mess in the house. How long would it be ok to keep her in the creat for. Do you think it would be better for her if we kept the tv on for her while she is in the crate?

Answer
Hi: Well, it depends on the age of the dog. I undertand you have a life and she needs to go into a crate. Also, the radio or Tv is a good idea for any pet that is alone.

If she is under 4 months old, You will have to give her a potty break ever 2 hours if possible... If not, you can put her in the bathroom with some wee wee paper and a baby gate. At least then she can go on the paper ...

If she is 6-8 months old, she can make it 6 hours or so.... It is hard to know for sure. If there is any way someone can come home at luchtime, to let her out?

Sorry, it is a hard one... You may crate her for more than 6 hours but she may have an accident. You know, she is still a kid.

Best wishes on your new dog.

My mom and dad wont let me have a dog. they say you have to have resposibility to take care of one. i love dogs! can you help me?

Answer
Getting a dog, is in more ways than not, like having a child. That dog will depend on you for EVERYTHING! Dogs have to be properly raised, trained and socialized. You will have to feed you dog, make sure your dog has water at all times, make sure your dog gets to the vet when needed, you have to bathe and groom your dog, you have to make sure it gets enough exercise, you have to walk your dog a few times a day every single day and you have to make sure your dog gets more then enough love and attention! You will have to buy everything that a dog needs..

-dog food (good quailty food)
-treats
-collar (the right size)
-leash
-crate (the right size)
-doggy bed(s)
-doggy shampoo and conditioner
-combs and brushes
-food bowl
-water bowl
-flea and tick stuff
-toys.. etc.

Having a dog is ALOT of work! It does get a little easier when your dog gets a little older, but its still ALOT of work, money, time and responsiblity! If you love your dog though, its all worth it! : ) My husband and I own two American Pit Bull Terriers that we think of as our children! We have a 1 year 1 month old male named Brooklyn and a 5 month old female named Destiny. We love them so much and would do anything for them! Brooklyn has been very healthy his whole life.. of course he still has to go to the vet for his regular check ups, but he has never had any real health problems. The day we got Destiny we took her to the vet and we had to pay over $1,500 to save her life! There really is no way to know if your dog will end up getting hurt or sick and if they do it can be very, very expensive and you have to do what you have to do.. you know?? Again, owning a dog is ALOT of money, time and work.. its a full time job, but it is all worth it! Owning a dog is wonderful! They love you no matter what, they are always there to make you feel better, they dont judge you and they can always bring a smile to your face! : )

If you want to get a puppy I would suggest that you show your parents that you are responsible enough to have one. You have to show them that you are willing and able to put in the time, energy and effort that it takes to own a dog. You also need to research some different breeds and see what breed would be best for you. Not all breeds are right for everyone. For example.. Like I said, we own two APBTs. They are wonderful dogs, but they are not for everyone! They are a pretty dominate breed and can be stubborn at times. They need a strong "pack leader" to raise, train and socialize them. They are very high energy dogs and need ALOT of exercise! They are also not good for people that want an outside dog or for people that wont be home alot. They get very attached to their owners very quickly and need ALOT of love and attention. Every breed is different and you need to do alot of research to figure out which on is for you. Once you do your research and figure out what breed you want, I would suggest that you show your parents. They will see that you are serious enough to do all of the research that needs to be done. You should also talk to your parents and see if there are any other reasons that they wont let you have a dog. They could have allergies or just not want a dog shedding all over the place. In that case there are many different breeds that shed little to almost none and there are many breeds that are good for allergy sufferers. They could just not want to pay for the dog and everything that the dog will need.. It is ALOT of money to own a dog. Just show them that your responsible and do your research and that might help! Good luck! : )

This is a good website to research a bunch of different breeds...

What are the initial costs for a dog? Such as the buying price, neutering, etc. Thanks knowledgeable people.

Answer
Cost of pet: $0-2,000+ sometimes you find a stray, sometimes you invest in a pup with titled, tested parents. The averages would probably be $50-200 for a shelter dog, $1000-2000 for a pup from a responsible breeder.

Spaying/Neutering: $0-300, many rescues come already altered and there are many low-cost programs for $25-50, but a traditional vet will charge $100-200 and if there are exceptional circumstances (like a b**** that is very small or a spay/abort) it may be $300.

Equipment: budget $20 for a small dog's crate, up to $150 for a giant breed's crate, $50 for puppy collar, adult collar, training collars/harnesses, license tag, and quality leashes, and $50-100 for a bed, toys, etc depending on how elaborate you want to get.

Initial vet visits: puppy shot series, worming, and check-ups for the first year: $50-100

Emergency fund for replacing the chewed-up coffee table, surgery to get the car keys back (puppies eat weird things!), etc, budget $500 for the first year.

Other expenses during your dog's lifetime including training classes, take at least an eight-week obedience class ($150-300 per eight weeks, more for some dog sports), food (I usually assume $1/day for a medium dog and approximate from there for a smaller or larger one), continued vet care (including flea prevention, worming, and emergencies) for $100-500 per year, and equipment replacements or upgrades of $50-100 per year.

Cost of getting a dog, low estimate: $750 for the first year (if dog is free and already altered and no emergencies occur), high estimate: $4000 for the first year (for well-bred pup, surgery, top-of-the-line equipment and at least one training class and one emergency/big puppy damage). And then about $500-1000 for each year after that, assuming no major problems.

Hi! What is the best dog age to adopt for a labrador retreiver.. im 14 years old.. i wanna know??

Will there be a lot of vaccinations and demowrning if there like 4 months and younger???

and can u pleas tell me all the information about the labrador retriever?

How many times should we comb his/her hair?
How many times do we check him up at the vet?(age)
How many times do we feed the dog?(age)
How many times do we exercise a dog?(age)
What is a good dog food for the age ur tellin me??
What does the labrador retriver need for example crate and toys? what else??

Answer
What is the best dog age to adopt for a labrador retreiver.. im 14 years old.. i wanna know?? No earlier then 8week old+, but adult will bond with you just fine. Its ILLEGAL to sell a puppy under the age of 8week old

Will there be a lot of vaccinations and demworming if there like 4 months and younger???
Easier Vet Trips. Puppies need a series of puppy shots and fecals, then a rabies shot, then surgery to spay/neuter them, and generally a trip or two to the emergency vet after eating something dangerous. (All of this usually adds up to substantially more than you paid for the dog!) When adopting an adult dog, the adoption fee should get you a dog with current vaccinations, this is altered, heartworm negative and on a preventative, at the minimum

How many times should we comb his/her hair? At least a couple fot times a week, a thorough brusing, brush daily. You NEED more then 1 BRUSH by the way.

How many times do we check him up at the vet?
a REPTUABLE breeder will general give shots at 6week, think there a shot at 6month as well, as another shot as well

Adults only need a yearly trip to the vets, and puppies require it abit more frequently a reptuable breeder or animal shelter will tell you how frequent

How many times do we feed the dog? 8week-6month=3 feeds, daily-Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, 6month-12months=2feeds daily, breakfast and dinner

How many times do we exercise a dog? Start slowly and get him used to the lead and collar 1st, he can be walked safely with a little caution after his 1st vacination. Myth #1:
âPuppies should not go to puppy classes/the mall/friendsâ houses until they have had all their vaccinations at 16 weeks/6 months of age.â (Fails all three tests)
This one lands squarely at the top of the âdangerous mythâ category. Itâs generally perceived as credible by new puppy owners because itâs often offered by the pupâs veterinarian. While it appears scientifically sound on its face (unvaccinated puppy at risk for contracting deadly diseases!), puppies who arenât properly socialized are at a
much greater risk for developing behavior problems, including aggression, that are likely to shorten their lives. The vet is right on one hand â the best way to ensure
that your pup isnât exposed to dog germs is to avoid other dogs. However, while itâs certainly true that you want to prevent your pupâs exposure to unknown and/or possibly
unhealthy dogs (and their waste), it is critically important that your pup get lots of exposure to the rest of the world, including healthy puppies in a controlled environment, before the critical socialization period ends at 12-16 weeks â or risk
serious, sometimes deadly, behavior problems.
In addition, during the period leading up to 4-6 months, your pup has protection from his motherâs immunities, and is receiving âpuppy shotsâ to cover that period of time when his motherâs protection starts to decrease. Not only is it âokayâ to take your pup places while exercising reasonable caution, you have an obligation to provide him with extensive socialization in order to maximize his chances of leading a
long and happy life.

Try buying a few cheap leads and collar, i can guarantee you a lab puppy will chew through at least 2 of them. My lab mix broke 5 collars when she was a puppy,, chew trhough about 5 leads. Buy multiple chew toys, BLACK extreme kongs, the puppy kongs won't last with a LAB chewing them.

Labrador Retriever
Coat
The Labrador Retriever is a double coat breed. The outer coat is straight, short, very dense, and hard in texture. The under coat is soft, weather-resistant, and protects this breed from cold, all types of ground cover, and water. The color of the coat comes in chocolate, black, and yellow. This breed is an average shedder.

Overview
Originating in Newfoundland during the 1700s, the Labrador Retriever was imported to England in the early 1800s. This breed is among the oldest of the modern recognized breeds. Their versatility and endless positive attributes have made the Labrador Retriever a popular family pet.

Character
The Labrador Retriever is medium in size, strong, athletic, and well balanced. They are friendly, outgoing, and possess an extremely sweet personality. There are two types of Labrador: The American, which is tall and lanky, and the English, which is more thick and heavy. This sporting breed is adept at hunting and retrieving. Labrador Retrievers are revered as companions and highly respected for their loving nature.

Temperament
This breed is highly intelligent, loyal, and deeply devoted. The Labrador Retriever is reliable, affectionate, and thrive on human companionship and attention. They are absolutely wonderful with children and get along exceedingly well with other dogs. They may be reserved with strangers and make good watchdogs. If this breed is left alone for extended periods of time without attention or stimulation they will become lonely, bored, and destructive.

Care
The Labrador Retriever requires regular grooming with a firm bristle brush. Special care should be given to the under coat to prevent mats and tangles. Bathing or dry shampooing should only be done when absolutely necessary. Labrador Retrievers are prone to elbow and hip dysplasia, eye disorders, and PRA.

Training
This breed is easily trained. Early socialization and basic obedience are recommended. The Labrador Retriever is very strong and must be taught not to pull on their leash. They do not respond to harsh or heavy-handed methods. The Labrador Retriever needs fairness, firmness, consistency, reward, and respect. They excel in tracking, police work, search and rescue, agility, competitive obedience, guide for the blind, and as service dogs for the disabled.

Labrador Retrievers need frequent exercise to stay happy and healthy. An urban or country environment with a fenced yard is ideal for this high energy dog breed. Labrador Retrievers love water and enjoy both swimming and retrieving. If you have decided that a Labrador Retriever puppy may be the right choice for your family, there are a few other things that you have to consider. You need to be aware that your Lab puppy will grow and will require proper exercise on a daily basis. Do you have the space in your house to accommodate such an animal, or a fenced in yard so that your dog can go out safely? Will you have enough time to spend on grooming your pet, and also on the training that may be required? Are you willing to spend the resources the keep your pet healthy?

How to transport my dog to another state without me being there?

baxasuka

I need to transport my dog to New York from Denver. My friend is currently watching her and how do I bring her over here without me being there to take her and most importantly, what company offers those services...She is a German Shepard that weighs around 70-75 lbs. Please let me know, Im desperate.

Answer
your friend could ship her to you by plane. Of course she would have to be in the cargo hold. She would need a health clearance from the vet just before being shipped. And a crate approved by the airline for shipping. You could check out dofferent airlines regarding costs and other requirements.

How well do Cats travel on a plane?

shywink

My friend is planning on taking a long plane trip from New York to Seattle.
Are there any special preparations she should do first?
She is worried the cat will get overly scared or excited and have a bad experience. Is there some medicine she can give him to keep him calm?

Answer
A sedative should NEVER EVER be used on a cat on a plane. Cats can have adverse reactions to medications especially since the effect of the meds will be greatly increased due to the altitude. And if the cat gets sick or starts siezuring mid-flight - what then? The pilot isn't going to make an emergency for the landing for the cat and the CAT WILL DIE.

Hopefully the cat is flying in the cabin with her so she'll be able to talk to the cat and/or put her fingers in the front of the carrier by her feet to give him a scratch. If she has the option - definitely recommend her carrying the cat on. Note that some airlines, though, don't allow pets in the cabin and ALL airlines limit the number of animals in the cabin at a time (most as little as two per flight) so she needs to let the airline know she intends to have a cat with her onboard. She'll also pay a fee - usually around $100.

As for getting the cat ready for the flight if it's not a cat that's used to going in a crate to vet she needs to start doing that right away. Get a hard crate - NOT a fabric one - as a) the hard crates are more secure, b) they permit more airflow, c) they give the cat a better view out and d) they are easily cleaned up. The airline can let her know what the maximum dimensions of the crate can be. Tell her to get the crate and set it up without the front gate in. Put a soft blanket inside the crate and toss a few toys or catnip inside of it. The key is getting the cat to go into it ON ITS OWN. You do NOT want to just force the cat into it and assume it'll be OK.

When I moved from Ft. Lauderdale, FL to Seattle, WA five years ago I flew with my ferrets in the cabin and my dog and cats in cargo. Everyone did just fine, but, like I said, if it's just the one cat recommend that it's with her in cabin. I also recently flew to California to a show with one of my cats. She was a bit scared during takeoff - which makes perfect sense as the plane gets very loud and rumbly - but the rest of the flight she was just fine. Going home she just stuck a paw out on put it on my foot during takeoff - and then settled down and napped.

How do I transport my dog safely from USA to Singapore?

Tanya

Which airlines have the best record? How can you prepare the dog to handle the confined space & the long journey? Can anyone give me any tips? My dog is a 12 year old labrador.

Answer
I also advise you check re any quarantine requirements by Singapore and perhaps any further health certificates , tattooing or microchipping or further vaccinactions your dog may need , also check with the airline re their requiements of what they consider is a safe crate for travel - check with your vet re health of your dog - what he may advise for long travel also as he is an dog older check to see he is fit enough for long travel and any stay in quarantine that may be required - It cost me quite a bit to take my dog and lots of preparation but it went well and my dog fared pretty well - I hope this may be the same for you .
I used an external water bottle attacthed to the crate for Hydration during a long voyage with electrolytes in the water - I have a safe toy -blankets and dry bed liner in the crate for the comfort of your dog -so
get in touch with the airlines get all details.
get in touch with Singapore re their quantine requirements and health certificates .
get in touch with your vet.
I contacted my quarantine department where I live and they gave me details of what was required by other countries and gave me contact numbers of overseas departments . you could try this too .
I think you will find that Singapore has a huge dog lovers contingent and a huge show interest -they have many many dog lovers that spend so much money on their dogs and spoil and care for their dogs so well and their pets are loved family members - do not be put off by some reports that your dog will be eaten - there are some places in asia that this happens and its so horrible - but its not all over the place- its not rampant they dont go stealing your pets off airline terminals for food !!
your dog is travelling with you and under the care of the airline they do not give your dog away for food - there a huge number of great shops that cater for pets over there and I think you will find what you need there in regards to food - health and welfare of your dog and tons of accessories .
Good Luck I hope all goes well .

How do you get rid of dog hair in your car and house?

Question

I tried using the car vaccum thing at the car wash but it doesn't come off. My dog doesn't go in the car all the time either. Hes only been in it a few times. Although I don't want my car to have a bunch of hair or to smell like a dog, I love bringing my dog with me when I can, and he loves going. So what can I do to get rid of the hair?

Answer
Personally i use a pet hoover, with 8 dogs, we have 3 hoovers and they are long haired.

If you let dog in car, you will get hairs like in your house in the air, get a seat liner to go on back of seat and keeps it cleaner, power wash and hoover the car...

dont buy cheap hoovers for removing pet hair they are not that good...or throw throws over seats or crate him in car with his own pet blankets, ours have their own blankets and stuff and we dont have hairs in the car.

Also a pair of rubber gloves and brush against the hair in the car, works wonders, same on suites etc, or a pet glove does same trick

Keyleigh

So my dog is having a hematoma drained tomorrow and surgery is required. The vet said it will be really messy after because they leave a spot open so ot can drain. So we bought a medium sized dog crate. Any ideas on what I should put on the bottom the crate that I can change out. Should I just use towels are do they make stuff for this?

Answer
Put something soft and familiar like his fav blanket or bed and then put a wee wee training pad onto and just change that out. Towels will work as well but may not be as comforting to the dog.

Hope your furry baby feels better soon and heals quickly!

is there anywhere that you can buy CHEAP dog crates?

carststr

We are going to be getting an Australian Shepherd Puppy in the next couple of months and are looking to find a dog crate- pref. used- that is on the cheaper side. Does anyone have any or anything that they are selling, reduced price?

Answer
Try http://www.craigslist.com - usually there are people on there selling unneeded and even new crates for reasonable prices.

When transporting a puppy in carrier crate (Plastic with metal gate) where do you put it inside a car? The front passenger seat, or the back seats? And also how do you secure the carrier crate safely into the car?

Answer
It is your choice as to where to put it.
You should be able to secure it in place with the seat belts.

What is your opinion on dog crates?

Madison

When you have to leave your house, do you put your dog in a crate or let the dog roam free in the house? Which is better?

Answer
I am a firm believer in crate training. Not only does it offer our dogs a safe and secure place all their own, but -in my opinion- it speeds up housebreaking and keeps furkids from getting into trouble/mischief. Also, it is quite apparent at the hospital which dogs are used to crating, the dogs are a lot less anxious and a lot less stressed, there is a HUGE difference.

Many people don't realize just how important it is to get their dogs comfortable with crates. Your dog will be crated at vet offices, boarding facilities, doggie daycares, and they SHOULD be crated while traveling in a car.

As puppies I crate train until they prove to me they have earned the right to the family room. Even though my two current dogs are now technically "out of their crates", I do still crate them on a regular basis to keep them comfortable with the idea and I do always leave the crates out at all times. I cannot tell you how many times I have found my dogs either napping or chewing their bones in their crates. It is all about making crates a POSITIVE experience.

What size crate do I need for a Doberman Pinscher?

dog crate 55 on Royal Canin Maxi Junior 15Kg
dog crate 55 image

Misty_00

Hi! I am currently crate training my puppy, and while the crate that I am using now is great (we were given it as a hand-me-down), I am starting to see that my pup will most likely outgrow it in the next 3 weeks. He is a purebred Doberman, and I am starting to shop for crates online. Can anyone reccomend any brands (that are durable) or sizes that would be good for this breed? Online, crates are listed by inches (not small, med, or large), so I am trying to decipher the sizes to make sure that I don't purchase one that is not too small or too big.

Answer
HI, We crate trained our dog and was able to buy at the petstore one that has an expansion capability. While she was growing we could adjust her kennel so she didn't have too much room and could be trained. If it is too big then they will go potty in it and not learn how to use the crate beneficially. See if your local store has one that can be adjusted for her size or buy one that will be for her recommended size and block it off inside to allow for turnaround room and keep moving the divider as your pup grows!
Here is some more specific info on doberman pinscher and crate training that is recommended:
The size of crate for Dobermans varies depending on the size of the dog (males are usually bigger). We recommend no smaller than 24W x 26"H x 32"L (or 400 size) for females and 28-30"W by 30-32"H x 36"L (or 500 size) for males.

With respect to bedding, I recommend putting an old, single layer blanket (nothing with stuffing) in the crate for your puppy. Some pups chew their bedding and an old blanket is worth less than the new $55.00 designer version of a pet bed. More often than not your puppy will rearrange the blanket into his own, comfy bed, so don't worry about folding it. I do not recommend placing ticking alarm clocks or hot water bottles in the crate. To help your new puppy feel a little more secure I recommend an old stuffed teddy bear but be sure that any button eyes and nose are removed or re-stitched securely.

I do not recommend feeding your puppy in the crate unsupervised. As well, do not provide water in the crate, as food and water will cause the puppy to have go potty. You can leave the pup with a safe toy or two and perhaps a doggy biscuit. Do not put your Doberman in the crate wearing a collar, or put rawhide, pig's ears or squeaky toys inside. Remember, you want him to be safe.

For how many hours and until what age are Dobermans crated?

When you first get your new puppy he will be 8-12 weeks of age. At this age it is advisable to have your pup in the crate for no longer than about three hours before letting him out to relieve himself, have a little play and a cuddle. Once your pup reaches 12-16 weeks, about four hours is the longest you will want to crate him. It is not advisable to leave your dog in his crate for longer than 4 hours regardless of age once your get past the 16 week mark. Should you find you must leave your pup for longer than this, then be kind and have a neighbor or relative come in and let your puppy out and spend a little time with him.

There is no exact age when your pup will miraculously be able to be left loose in the house unsupervised. Each dog is different. Personally, I would continue with your crate routine until your dog is six months old. At this time you can "test" the dog. Leave him out for very short periods of time when you are preoccupied. Watch what he does. Then increase the time spent out until he stays out while you are sleeping. If he shows himself trustworthy, then you can begin to "test" him when you go out. Only ten minutes at first. Then an hour, then two or three. Do not rush to getting your dog "crate-free" as bad habits can still be formed.

Hope this is what you were looking for and best of luck to you and your new pup!

What is the differences of Dog and Cat expenses?

chris j

I am trying to prove that financially dogs cost more than cats in monthly or annual expenses. Is there a chart or some kind of math I need in order to make my own chart of comparison? I just thought because most cats are not as big -physically- as dogs, that alone would make a cat (or more) much less cheaper in expenses, correct? If I wanted to make my own comparison chart of this, what kind of math formula would I use?

I just bought a dog crate and I want to make a pillow/mattress/bed/pad for it and thought I might take a stab at sewing one myself. I want it to be 48x28 inches...how much fabric should I buy?

Answer
1.5 yards of 60" or wider or 3 yards of 30 to 58" wide fabric, assuming knife edges, no welt, and you want to not piece top and bottom.

What would be the right size crate for a 60 lb male boxer?

info

Have a male boxer 60 lb been destroying everything along with my fostered dog. I need a big crate to put him in. What would be the right size for him?

Answer
When you go to the pet store, they usually have a weight range for each crate, as well as names of breeds who normally fit in that size. My 65 pound lab uses a crate that is 42 inches long, 26 inches wide, and 28 inches high. I think this size is considered x-large. The next smallest size (large) is 36x28x24. You might be able to get away with the smaller size. My advice is to measure how long your dog is when lying down. That will tell you how long you need the crate to be.

And crate training is a fine practice. IT is not mean to the dog, when used correctly. It's not a substitute for obedience training, but it is the safest way to make sure your dog doesn't destroy things and hurt himself when you are not there.

good animal shelter to give your dog to in New Jersey?

best dog kennel new jersey image
Q. My dogs have been a little bit much to handle. If you could please help me find a good animal shelter to give my Pitbull and Pitbull-German Shepard mix to in New Jersey it would be greatly appreciated; thank you

Answer
if their already grown and not trained the nicest thing you could do is to bring them in and put them to sleep and be there for them when they do it. i know this sounds really mean but if you take them to a shelter theyll be separated and put in kennels and be confused. because their pitbulls they have a strike against them and if theyre not trained no chance unless theyre extremely lucky, but theres other pits that will be well trained looking for homes so not much of a chance.maybe try and keep one then maybe you can manage to train it. all the shelters in nj do put to sleep and pits and pit mixes are the lst they are the hardest to adopt out.

Whats a good dog breeder in New Jersey that sells small dogs?

Alvarez

I live in central new jersey and i have recently been looking for a puppy.
I was thinking along the lines of a small shih tzu. If you know of another dog breed that is more suitable please tell. If you have any info please answer.(links to the breeders web would be good).

Answer
Look up the local kennel club and attend some dog shows. Ask the exhibitors of the breeds that interest you if they have time to talk to you aobut their dogs, and if they dont' because they are preparing to show, find a good time to come back to talk to them. Usually people who show are responsible breeders as well, but not always, so do your homework. When looking for a breeder, make sure they are responsible. A responsible breeder will:

1) be breeding to the breed's standard..no teacup, micro, mini, imperial,
king, or other goofy term for runts or oversized dogs. No intentional
"rare", meaning unaccepted by the breed standard, colors either.

2) will be actively showing or working the parents.

3) will have genetic health testing done, such as OFA or PennHip, CERF,
VonWillebrand's, etc.

4) will give you the results of that testing in writing

5) insists on spay/neuter for pet pups.

6) has a contract citing the spay/neuter clause and also offering to take
back the pup at any time for any reason for the rest of its life.

7) is open, honest, and available to the new owner, and can talk aobut their
breed for hours.

8) does a home check before placing a pup, and will turn down homes that
might not be suitable for a pup of their breed.

9) does not put money above the well-being of their animals.

If the breeder you are considering doesn't fit these guidelines, find a
better breeder. You are more likely to get a mentally and physically
healthy pup from a responsible breeder.

How much should i charge for my petsitting in Rialto, CA?

royaperry

A friend of mine asked me to come feed, water, and walk her dog for 5 days. She lives a little out of the way for me, but she doesn't want to put her dog in a kennel. What should i charge and should i get money up front?

Answer
If she's a friend that you trust, getting the money up front shouldn't be such a big deal.
How much did she offer? I'd be more comfortable asking her to set a price rather than demanding a certain amount (if I were in your situation).
Factor in the cost of gas and assume it will take you about 1-2 hours with the dogs daily (multiple 1/2 hour trips). I'd charge about $25 dollars per day plus the cost of gas.
Here are two websites which offer pet sitting in San Jose and west los Angeles. You can look at their rates/services to form your own prices.

I'm going out of town and my little 6 pound puppy is going with me what can I give him to help him sleep on the plane he is going under my seat so he won't bother everybody he is 4 months old? benadryl?? if so could I give him a whole one.? like the little pink ones?? he is never been on a plane for an whenever I put him in carrier he barks and throws a fit I just don't want him to do that on the plane .. I'm hoping I can get him something to help him sleep so there won't be any problems on the way there... can I give melatonin to help? just anything to help him sleep the way there it's harmless to the dog I don't want to harm my precious angel.

Answer
you should check with the airline you are using to see if they even allow sedated pets ... one of the last times i traveled with may dog, the airline employees thought my dog was sedated and i had to take him out and walk him around to show that he was not ... and if your dog is super anxious about being in the crate, no benadryl or melatonin is going to make any difference ... you should get the dog used to the crate ... put in a t-shirt you have worn and spend increasing time carrying the dog around the house, make it fun, like a game ... increase the time slowly spent in the crate and even take outside and carry around the block ... and also know if your dog is making a commotion before you get on the plane, the will decline allowing your pet to travel so it is in your best interest to get your pup used to the carrier ...

What causes a puppies eyes to be deep red?

Dani J

They are not normally like this. He stays in his crate for more of the day till our dog run comes it. Tonight I went to take him out side to go potty and both his eyes are a deep red...almost like he got owies in them but neither my husband nor my self have any idea how it happened. Should I be concerned? Should I take him to the vet?

Answer
What part is red?
Is it red like blood or pink like irritation.

If you think he might have blood in his eyes, go immediately to a vet. There could be some genetic component making his blood vessels weak, or he could have been poisoned. If it looks like blood in his eyes, go immediately to a vet.

If it's pink, it could be irritated by any number of things. If he seems OK, and isn't showing any medical problems, I think it's OK to wait a day or so and watch him.

I have a large dog and he's destroying my yard. His urine is making urine spots, and his poop is everywhere on the grassy area. I was thinking about maybe getting a designated area for his poop and pee, but all the areas are full of plants my dad is growing. I only have the concrete part left. He is also an outdoor only dog, and I don't know what to do. I tried the dog pee pads, but whenever I come home, I always see swarms of flies buzzing around. Is there any ways that I can let my dog relieve himself, prevent flies, and I could also maybe make it myself? I have seen the prices at pet stores and some of the dog poop/pee crates are worth more than how much I bought my dog. Please help!

Answer
You can train a dog to go in one area only. Your dog maybe too old at this stage. How about cleaning up after him every day (I assume you already do so). Maybe ask your Dad if he can free up an area for the dog.

What are thoughts and suggestions on shipping a Siberian husky?

Princess M

I want to ship a dog from Dallas TX to Pittsburgh PA, is this a good idea, and any suggestions?
Ok now I'm borderline idk wt to do he's gonna fly for two hours max

Answer
In my opinion, I wouldn't reccomend shipping a dog.
I've heard alot of shocking things that's happened, not only to the mental and physical health of the dog, due to being shipped, but the long lasting effect it will have (maybe memory wise or you might have a hard time crate-training due to the memory of being shipped) and how much pain he was going through. While being shipped, they are prone to having inner-ear problems and also neurological problems. And inner-ear problems for dogs can be very painful, causing the dog to bang its head against something, and thus causing bleeding...and it could be so severe that tubes would need to be put in surgically from the Vet to let drain (fluid built up from pressure from hi altitude)
Now, it might be perfectly safe to ship a dog...it's been done before.
But if you can avoid it, please do

How do you fly a dog across the country, alone?

ty97

My brother needs to ship his dog from WV to TX, but my brother won't be flying. We know how he can get the dog home when he flies with him, but how do we 'ship' the dog?

Answer
If you contact the shipping departments of various airlines, they can help you. Contenental is a good one with shipping -- you can check the information on their website as that will give you an idea as to what is expected. Basically they have to have a veterinary health certificate within thirty days of shipping, they need to have a crate that the airlines like the size of -- one large enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in - often you can buy them from the airlines but Walmart has them too and a little cheaper I think. You set up for who is going to recieve the dog - there has to be someone designated to recieve the dog. You have to set all this up and then get the dog to the shipping area of the airport fairly early before the flight - some of the airlines the recieving party can pick them up at the terminal and others they need to go to the cargo area. I can't recall but I think the dogs I have gotten in at the Dallas, San Antonio and Houston airports, I have usually gone to the cargo areas except with Delta - they had the dog at the office area in the terminal - they will be able to let you know about that though prior to shipping. It is more expensive shipping without being an accompanying dog so, depending upon size, he needs to check on cost and be ready to pay for it - no CODs or anything like that. There are usually restrictions with regards to weather/temperatures but now isn't a bad time and Contenental supposedly doesn't have these restrictions because they have climate controlled areas they keep the live animals - but check on it beforehand. Try to get straight through flights as well so that there isn't any mix up changing planes in Tinbucktoo or something. If he can drive to a large airport that has a straight through flight, or at least no change of planes but with a short stop somewhere, and ship to a large airport in TX with no changes - I think Houston is a primary for Continental, Dallas for American (wasn't terribly pleased with them) and can't remember San Antonio - maybe Continental too but certain flights I think... anyway, the shipping agents are usually VERY helpful with this so calling and talking to them is a good idea. Good luck!

BTW, I have never had to tranqualize a dog to ship them and wouldn't recommend it -- there is no one in the cargo area of the plane to watch and if they get into trouble with the tranquelizer, it could be dangerous. They will usually settle down in the crate, particularly if they are crate trained prior to shipping. I have just heard too many horror stories with tranquilizing animals for shipment.

I'm adopting a puppy soon, but I don't live in a very big house, so I don't want a giant dog. Well, most dogs at the pound are mixed breeds so I don't know how to tell how big they'll get. Is there a way to tell? Also is there any other way to potty train a dog without crate- training them?
We're adopting. No breeders.

Answer
well, in my experience females are much easier to potty train. also, if your really worried about their size, you might consider adopting an adult dog! congrats!

What breed of dog should I get if I have a small child?

Expecting

I have a 4 years old daughter, and my husband and I really want to get a dog. We never had a dog before and we live in an apartment in a city - its a very large apartment though. I am nto sure what breed we should get. I know it should probably be a small dog, but do you have more suggestions?

Answer
What it really boils down to is the individual dog. Ideally you want a dog that's been raised with kids and has proven himself/herself to be good with them. You could also get a puppy to raise with your kids but it'll be a lot of work and you'd need to be prepared for training classes for basic obedience, working on training at home, housebreaking, crate training, teaching the dog what's appropriate to chew on and what's not, etc. Be prepared to have your workload around the house increase doublefold if you get a puppy.

Medium sized dogs tend to be a better choice than other sized dogs. Small dogs (chihuahuas, papillions, etc.) can frequently become overwhelmed with the activity level of children to the point they feel threatened and think they need to defend themselves. Giant breeds (saint bernard, mastiff, etc.) can be great with kids but problems may arise simply because of the massive size of the dog and the small size of the child - giant dogs can inadvertantly harm children. However, there are always exceptions to rules. I think your best bet would be to check out your local humane society or www.petfinder.com and look for some dogs available for adoption. Responsible humane societies perform behavior assessments of their dogs and would require that the dog meet your children before bringing it home to ensure that everyone gets along. You may also be able to find a dog through an owner who needs to rehome theirs, however, it's important to be aware that not every owner will be completely truthful and there's always the possibility of an owner fibbing about their dog's behavior so they can get rid of it easier (i.e. you ask, "Has the dog ever shown aggression towards a child?" and they respond, "No" even though their dog has growled or nipped at a kid.)

Don't forget that it's important to teach your kids how to treat dogs with respect. Children should not be allowed to tease or provoke the dog. Also, no matter how well-behaved of a dog you get it's important not to leave your 4 year old with the dog unsupervised.

I was over my friends house today playing with him and running around in his back yard with him and his dog. Later when i got home, my mom got a call from my friends dad saying that my friends dog has kennel cough. Should i be concerned and what can happen to dogs from kennel cough?

Answer
Kennel cough is basically bronchitis for dogs. If it goes untreated it can get bad but usually you hear about it because it's so contagious. A dog that catches it should be taken to the vet for medicine and kept away from other dogs for about a week. If you have a dog and don't want it to catch kennel cough then you need to wash your clothes and skin wherever the infected dog came into contact with.

Can my dog get kennel cough If I was around a dog with it?

My friends dogs have kennel cough and I was around them can I give it to my dogs now ?

Answer
As people have said, it is remotely possible. Kennel cough is very treatable. DO NOT ever vaccinate your dog for kennel cough. It is a very bad vaccine and unnecessary. The only worse vaccine is coronavirus, which has no purpose and frequently makes dogs very ill. Well, rabies is a bad vaccine too but legally required. The only vaccines you should use are parvo and distemper, and once your dog has had its final shots at one year old, he/she is good for LIFE. Revaccinating your dog every year is completely unnecessary and is know to precipitate immune disorders in dogs.

I follow Dr Dodds vaccine protocol, she is a leader in vaccine and blood titer research.
