Ok, I want a large dog crate for my 50 pound Pointer, it can be wire or plastic. I am on a budget and I can't spend a lot of money, no more than $30. I am located in Dallas, TX, but I can mail money if you can mail the cage to me. My e-mail is baby_7991@yahoo.com please e-mail me if you have an offer.

Answer

Have you taken your dog on a flight with you in the cabin?

Smokie Bea

How was it?
Did you take your dog out at all?
What airline? Where they nice people?
Were you aloud to have the dog on your lap at all?

- Im 17 and taking my dog ( 5 pound long haired chihuahua- And she was abused) So I am wanting to know if i can hold her at all or do i have to leave her in the carrier. How does security go? Who do i give my vet papers to?
The flight is only about 2 hours and 15 mins.
** Really, dont attack me!, Foxy was abused and clings to me, touching me and seeing me is a must for her!! **
I just asked a few questions.. jesus !!

Answer
I have flown many times with my dog (16 pounds) on many different airlines (United, AirTran, JetBlue, and I think Delta).

1. Every airline has a different policy (some don't allow dogs in the cabin, others do, the fees they charge are different). Some will ask to see shot records, others won't. Practically none of them will allow you to buy your ticket online or over the phone--you'll almost always have to go to the counter to get your dog's ticket. So check ahead of time, allow extra time--do not assume you can show up the day of the flight and you're covered. As for vet papers, twice I've had someone at the counter ask to see them and no other time has anyone even asked if I had them.

2. All airlines require that your dog stay in her carrier. However, I have often pulled the carrier out from under the seat and put it on my lap (then unzipped it enough to slide my arm in).

3. My dog is an incredibly good traveler. I've had two flites where my seatmates never knew I had a dog with me. I never drug my dog. I do make sure he gets to walk outside the airport and pee/poop before he goes in his bag. Also, some airports require that your dog be in her crate as soon as you enter the airport. At Dulles, National, Orlando, Atlanta and Dallas/Ft. Worth I put him on his lead and walk him around the airport with me.

4. For security, notify TSA when you get near the front of the line "I have a dog." They'll ask you to take the collar/harness off and put it on the xray scanner belt. Then you hold your dog and walk through the metal detector. The TSA folks have always been charming with my dog. Hint: you may need some help after you go through--you'll be putting on shoes, belts, jackets and still holding your dog.

5. You will need to put your dog in her carrier before you board the aircraft. So practice this, make sure your dog loves her carrier before you ever even start packing to head to the airport. If you've ever done crate training than you'll know how to do this. If not, put something that smells good (an old T-shirt of your's) in there, feed her dinners in the crate (so she gets used to going in and associates it with good things). Keep at it until she will go in on command and without forcing.

You may already have a carrier. I got a "Sturdi Bag" (www.cleanrun.com). It folks completely flat when not in use, can be carried over your shoulder or by hand, holds up well, is roomy for a dog your size, is guaranteed to fit under an airline seat, and can either be unzipped to provide a lot of light thorough mesh walls or zipped up to make it darker and shut out sound. Very versatile and tough yet light.

Hoping to fly my dog from Tampa to Dallas- help?

:)

I have never flown with my dog before, but plan on doing so in the next few weeks. I am flying from Tampa to Dallas, and have a Shiba Inu / Chow mix that weighs about 55-60 lbs. I was planning on finding a crate that fits under a window seat for Southwest Airlines, which is 19"L x 14"W x 8.25"H.
What I am wondering is, will a dog of her weight fit in a crate of that size? She's a medium sized dog and can be easily picked up, but am worried that I will buy the crate and then find out she does not fit. HELP!

Answer
a 55 lb dog will not be allowed in the cabin, only in cargo. I believe the weight limit for in cabin is like 15 maybe 20 pounds, if that.

no crate that a dog that size could fit in will ever fit under a seat. any animal must be able to stand up and turn around completely. the smallest pet carriers are the ones that fit. nothing larger.

Why can the city take my dog with no proof!!?

jr_1812

Today a guy was walking by my business and my dog got loose somehow and started barking at some guy. The guy started yelling for me to get my dog I ran outside and my dog was far from the guy. I called my dog and he came. I put him in his crate and the guy said your dog scratched me and asked for a bandaid. The guy left and a few hours later a city of Dallas Animal control came and said he needed to take my dog because the got a call that my dog bit someone. I told him I wasnt going to release my dog cops got there and said that I would go to jail if I didn't and they would still take the dog. I asked them for proof and they said they didn't need to provide proof and that they needed to Quarntine my dog. I had proof of his rabies shots and everything. My dog has never bit anyone and he goes to the vet regularly and does well there. What can I do? There should be a law for the victim accusing my dog to show proof. This means if I don't like u and I know u have a dog I can call the city?
I live at my job Public Storage and how the dog got loose is he was tethered and I just started doing this because of breakins and High crime rate in my area. The 250 pound resistant cord broke and well my dog was walking around the front of my office. The dog is a 80lb Rottie and he has been walked around my property without a leash and ppl have petted him as well with no problems.

Answer
The one law you did break was the City's leash law. The dog was unrestrained and off your property. They can confiscate your dog for that purpose. Also, if you didn't have current dog license, they can also confiscate the dog.

The guy is lying and there will likely be some process for determining if your dog is a vicious dog, such as a hearing. You may want to ask Animal Control when the quarantine period is over and what will happen after that. Based on what your hear, you may want to consult with a lawyer.

If this guy is lying, he may also be the kind to try and sue you. Another reason to talk to attorney. An attorney can get any medical records for any treatment the guy sought and take it from there.

In the future, the best thing to do is to make sure your dog is under your control at all times.

What are thoughts and suggestions on shipping a Siberian husky?

I want to ship a dog from Dallas TX to Pittsburgh PA, is this a good idea, and any suggestions?
Ok now I'm borderline idk wt to do he's gonna fly for two hours max

Answer
In my opinion, I wouldn't reccomend shipping a dog.
I've heard alot of shocking things that's happened, not only to the mental and physical health of the dog, due to being shipped, but the long lasting effect it will have (maybe memory wise or you might have a hard time crate-training due to the memory of being shipped) and how much pain he was going through. While being shipped, they are prone to having inner-ear problems and also neurological problems. And inner-ear problems for dogs can be very painful, causing the dog to bang its head against something, and thus causing bleeding...and it could be so severe that tubes would need to be put in surgically from the Vet to let drain (fluid built up from pressure from hi altitude)
Now, it might be perfectly safe to ship a dog...it's been done before.
But if you can avoid it, please do

How do you fly a dog across the country, alone?

My brother needs to ship his dog from WV to TX, but my brother won't be flying. We know how he can get the dog home when he flies with him, but how do we 'ship' the dog?

Answer
If you contact the shipping departments of various airlines, they can help you. Contenental is a good one with shipping -- you can check the information on their website as that will give you an idea as to what is expected. Basically they have to have a veterinary health certificate within thirty days of shipping, they need to have a crate that the airlines like the size of -- one large enough for the dog to stand up and turn around in - often you can buy them from the airlines but Walmart has them too and a little cheaper I think. You set up for who is going to recieve the dog - there has to be someone designated to recieve the dog. You have to set all this up and then get the dog to the shipping area of the airport fairly early before the flight - some of the airlines the recieving party can pick them up at the terminal and others they need to go to the cargo area. I can't recall but I think the dogs I have gotten in at the Dallas, San Antonio and Houston airports, I have usually gone to the cargo areas except with Delta - they had the dog at the office area in the terminal - they will be able to let you know about that though prior to shipping. It is more expensive shipping without being an accompanying dog so, depending upon size, he needs to check on cost and be ready to pay for it - no CODs or anything like that. There are usually restrictions with regards to weather/temperatures but now isn't a bad time and Contenental supposedly doesn't have these restrictions because they have climate controlled areas they keep the live animals - but check on it beforehand. Try to get straight through flights as well so that there isn't any mix up changing planes in Tinbucktoo or something. If he can drive to a large airport that has a straight through flight, or at least no change of planes but with a short stop somewhere, and ship to a large airport in TX with no changes - I think Houston is a primary for Continental, Dallas for American (wasn't terribly pleased with them) and can't remember San Antonio - maybe Continental too but certain flights I think... anyway, the shipping agents are usually VERY helpful with this so calling and talking to them is a good idea. Good luck!

BTW, I have never had to tranqualize a dog to ship them and wouldn't recommend it -- there is no one in the cargo area of the plane to watch and if they get into trouble with the tranquelizer, it could be dangerous. They will usually settle down in the crate, particularly if they are crate trained prior to shipping. I have just heard too many horror stories with tranquilizing animals for shipment.

How much would it cost to ship an adult dog from Brazil to the US?

Im getting a 2 year old siberian husky but the breeder lives in brazil so I was wondering how much it would cost to ship an adult dog from Brazil to the US? I live in california.

Answer
I took a flight with my standard poodle from Anchorage, Alaska to Dallas, Texas and back. The airfare for him was $50 each way. You also have to pay for or have an approved crate and have the pup vet-checked. There's a form that has to be filled out attesting that the pup is free of disease and has had the proper vaccinations.

If I were you I'd contact the breeder to find out if he's shipped animals before. If so, ask him what the costs will be.
