Chewing Problems with puppy when in crate?

Idiots

I have a 8-9 month old Australian Shepherd puppy. We have had him since 8 weeks. He is nurtured and overall a really good dog. We have crate train him, and we have another 2 year old Aussie as well, and hes never done anything like this. They are in separate crates during the day. We have one of those pop-up metal crates, with the plastic liner with blankets on top, and he has manage to chew it up completely both the blankets and plastic liner. My worries are that he will start to chew up the carpet underneath it, and if i get another plastic liner, he might just chew that up as well. Any suggestions? We leave treats and chew toys in there, and we also have left shirts with our scent in there with him as well.

Answer
I would say to put a metal sheet on the bottom of the crate, a piece of plywood may also work. Also perhaps you should urinate in his face while he is in the crate so he knows he has to do what you want. If that does not work try punching him repetitively, and if that does not work I think you have exhausted all of your options.

Which type of dog crate, a wire or plastic one is more safe and better to use for car travels? Why?

TOP TEN TIPS FOR SAFE CAR TRAVEL WITH YOUR PET
For some pet parents, a tripâs no fun if the four-legged members of the family canât come. But traveling can be highly stressful, both for you and your animal companions. With thoughtful preparation, you can ensure a safe and comfortable trip for everyone.

Planning a road trip? Traveling with a pet involves more than just loading the animal in the back seat and motoring offâespecially if you will be driving long distances or plan to be away for a long time. The ASPCA offers the following tips to help you prepare for a safe and smooth car trip:

1. Keep your pets safe and secure in a well-ventilated crate or carrier. There are a variety of wire mesh, hard plastic and soft-sided carriers available. Whatever you choose, make sure itâs large enough for your pet to stand, sit, lie down and turn around in. And P.S., itâs smart to get your pet used to the carrier in the comfort of your home before your trip.

2. Get your pet geared up for a long trip by taking him on a series of short drives first, gradually lengthening time spent in the car.

3. Your petâs travel-feeding schedule should start with a light meal three to four hours prior to departure. Donât feed your furry friend in a moving vehicleâeven if it is a long drive.

4. Never leave your animal alone in a parked vehicle. On a hot day, even with the windows open, a parked automobile can become a furnace in no time, and heatstroke can develop. In cold weather, a car can act as a refrigerator, holding in the cold and causing the animal to freeze to death.

5. What in your petâs traveling kit? In addition to travel papers, food, bowl, leash, a waste scoop, plastic bags, grooming supplies, medication and a pet first-aid kit, pack a favorite toy or pillow to give your pet a sense of familiarity.

6. Make sure your pet wears a collar with an ID tag imprinted with your home address, as well as a temporary travel tag with your cell phone, destination phone number, and any other relevant contact information. Canines should wear flat (never choke!) collars, please.

7. Don't allow your pet to ride with his head outside the window. This can subject him to inner ear damage and lung infections, and he could be injured by flying objects.

8. Traveling across state lines? Bring along your petâs rabies vaccination record, as some states requires this proof at certain interstate crossings. While this generally isnât a problem, itâs always smart to be on the safe side.

9. When it comes to H2O, we say BYO. Opt for bottled water or tap water stored in plastic jugs. Drinking water from an area heâs not used to could result in tummy upset for your pet.

10. If you travel frequently with your pet, you may want to invest in rubberized floor liners and waterproof seat covers, available at auto product retailers.

My rabbit is housed in a large dog crate, with the plastic slide-out floor cover in spongey shelf liner. He only sleeps in the cage at night. When I move the cage to clean it, I see that the underside of the wire crate and plastic floor have sweated. Is there anything I can put on the floor of the cage to absorb the heat and prevent this?

Answer
Sounds weird but go to acraft store. In there, you can find all the things to make dried flower arrangements. There are some drying agents that you can used, some in crystal or dust form. These will help absorb the moisture and dispel it through out the day. Just make sure that your rabbit can't get to it.

Is painting a metal wire type dog crate toxic to pups and dogs?

Fun Bimmer

Hello, i have a large metal type dog crate, but its raw metal and started to look worn and kinda rusted. I spray painted it with Rustoleum truck bed liner spray, it looks alot better and is now nice and black with that textured non slip finish. My question, is this toxic to dogs? will the coating harm them in any way (allergies, poisoning, etc) i cant find anything online or on the spraycan stating any dangers to dogs, cats or any pets,

Answer

Tanya

Which airlines have the best record? How can you prepare the dog to handle the confined space & the long journey? Can anyone give me any tips? My dog is a 12 year old labrador.

Answer
I also advise you check re any quarantine requirements by Singapore and perhaps any further health certificates , tattooing or microchipping or further vaccinactions your dog may need , also check with the airline re their requiements of what they consider is a safe crate for travel - check with your vet re health of your dog - what he may advise for long travel also as he is an dog older check to see he is fit enough for long travel and any stay in quarantine that may be required - It cost me quite a bit to take my dog and lots of preparation but it went well and my dog fared pretty well - I hope this may be the same for you .
I used an external water bottle attacthed to the crate for Hydration during a long voyage with electrolytes in the water - I have a safe toy -blankets and dry bed liner in the crate for the comfort of your dog -so
get in touch with the airlines get all details.
get in touch with Singapore re their quantine requirements and health certificates .
get in touch with your vet.
I contacted my quarantine department where I live and they gave me details of what was required by other countries and gave me contact numbers of overseas departments . you could try this too .
I think you will find that Singapore has a huge dog lovers contingent and a huge show interest -they have many many dog lovers that spend so much money on their dogs and spoil and care for their dogs so well and their pets are loved family members - do not be put off by some reports that your dog will be eaten - there are some places in asia that this happens and its so horrible - but its not all over the place- its not rampant they dont go stealing your pets off airline terminals for food !!
your dog is travelling with you and under the care of the airline they do not give your dog away for food - there a huge number of great shops that cater for pets over there and I think you will find what you need there in regards to food - health and welfare of your dog and tons of accessories .
Good Luck I hope all goes well .

How do you get rid of dog hair in your car and house?

Question

I tried using the car vaccum thing at the car wash but it doesn't come off. My dog doesn't go in the car all the time either. Hes only been in it a few times. Although I don't want my car to have a bunch of hair or to smell like a dog, I love bringing my dog with me when I can, and he loves going. So what can I do to get rid of the hair?

Answer
Personally i use a pet hoover, with 8 dogs, we have 3 hoovers and they are long haired.

If you let dog in car, you will get hairs like in your house in the air, get a seat liner to go on back of seat and keeps it cleaner, power wash and hoover the car...

dont buy cheap hoovers for removing pet hair they are not that good...or throw throws over seats or crate him in car with his own pet blankets, ours have their own blankets and stuff and we dont have hairs in the car.

Also a pair of rubber gloves and brush against the hair in the car, works wonders, same on suites etc, or a pet glove does same trick
