Answer
Getting a dog, is in more ways than not, like having a child. That dog will depend on you for EVERYTHING! Dogs have to be properly raised, trained and socialized. You will have to feed you dog, make sure your dog has water at all times, make sure your dog gets to the vet when needed, you have to bathe and groom your dog, you have to make sure it gets enough exercise, you have to walk your dog a few times a day every single day and you have to make sure your dog gets more then enough love and attention! You will have to buy everything that a dog needs..

-dog food (good quailty food)
-treats
-collar (the right size)
-leash
-crate (the right size)
-doggy bed(s)
-doggy shampoo and conditioner
-combs and brushes
-food bowl
-water bowl
-flea and tick stuff
-toys.. etc.

Having a dog is ALOT of work! It does get a little easier when your dog gets a little older, but its still ALOT of work, money, time and responsiblity! If you love your dog though, its all worth it! : ) My husband and I own two American Pit Bull Terriers that we think of as our children! We have a 1 year 1 month old male named Brooklyn and a 5 month old female named Destiny. We love them so much and would do anything for them! Brooklyn has been very healthy his whole life.. of course he still has to go to the vet for his regular check ups, but he has never had any real health problems. The day we got Destiny we took her to the vet and we had to pay over $1,500 to save her life! There really is no way to know if your dog will end up getting hurt or sick and if they do it can be very, very expensive and you have to do what you have to do.. you know?? Again, owning a dog is ALOT of money, time and work.. its a full time job, but it is all worth it! Owning a dog is wonderful! They love you no matter what, they are always there to make you feel better, they dont judge you and they can always bring a smile to your face! : )

If you want to get a puppy I would suggest that you show your parents that you are responsible enough to have one. You have to show them that you are willing and able to put in the time, energy and effort that it takes to own a dog. You also need to research some different breeds and see what breed would be best for you. Not all breeds are right for everyone. For example.. Like I said, we own two APBTs. They are wonderful dogs, but they are not for everyone! They are a pretty dominate breed and can be stubborn at times. They need a strong "pack leader" to raise, train and socialize them. They are very high energy dogs and need ALOT of exercise! They are also not good for people that want an outside dog or for people that wont be home alot. They get very attached to their owners very quickly and need ALOT of love and attention. Every breed is different and you need to do alot of research to figure out which on is for you. Once you do your research and figure out what breed you want, I would suggest that you show your parents. They will see that you are serious enough to do all of the research that needs to be done. You should also talk to your parents and see if there are any other reasons that they wont let you have a dog. They could have allergies or just not want a dog shedding all over the place. In that case there are many different breeds that shed little to almost none and there are many breeds that are good for allergy sufferers. They could just not want to pay for the dog and everything that the dog will need.. It is ALOT of money to own a dog. Just show them that your responsible and do your research and that might help! Good luck! : )

This is a good website to research a bunch of different breeds...
