There are 15 states with a higher murder rate then Florida yet it seems like most crimes showcased on TV are based here. Has anyone else noticed this?
I am not talking about old movies like Scarface or CSI Miami. Im talking about dateline or investigation discovery. Real cases that's they have made into documentaries.

Answer
It has a pretty backdrop, besides some states reward tv production companies with perks to film there. Hawai'i Five-0 isn't filmed there same for Dog The Bounty Hunter... seems TV history would point to New York as being the crime showcase winner.

OK, so you are a TV producer, you want to make a crime story doc. Do you want to go to Detroit, or Miami? What looks better for ratings, tropical vistas, blazing sunsets, and a palm tree or two for measure, or a boarded up city, that is half burnt, and full of drug users... And again, the State of Florida has a Film Department that rolls out the red carpet to production companies. Detroit has crack.
