Answer
non shedding, small dogs:
-bichon frise
-maltese
-toy or mini poodle
-mini schnauzer
-yorkshire terrier
-some kind of mix of those

these are all great dogs!

-and all dogs can be easy to train. it is the owner who makes it easy or not. you have to be responsible and research a lot about caring for dogs! it will help a lot!

-and look up crate training on google for housebreaking your dog (it is the simplest way in my opinion)

-this is what you should type in google to get a list of local animal shelters: auburn new york+local animal shelters
-or you can adopt from petfinder.com (it is a wonderful website!)

so you are pretty much all set and just make sure to research a bit on how to care for dogs :)

i really hope this helps and good luck!!

Need help training my dog- several people say to crate-how do I crate? what is best?

Hey BeCherry

House training your dog huh? I went through this experience and you have no idea how challenging it can be. I've had several pets, and I've tried different methods of house training a puppy. Some of these puppy training techniques were very good, but many were not. But nothing beats the method I used on my bloodhound, Rocko.

Interestingly enough, it was only after I had Rocko trained that I discovered that there was actually an official name to the method I had used. It was called the crate method of training a puppy. Crate training refers to housing your puppy in a small crate, or indoor kennel, and keeping her in there when she is not out for walks with you, or when she's not being actively supervised while in your home.
As an animal lover, I knew that dogs have this instinct that causes them to dislike going to the bathroom in an area where they normally eat or sleep. So I purchased a crate from a pet store, and introduced Rocko to his new home. And that's where Rocko spent portion of his first month with me. I knew that since he was spending most of his time in his "sleeping quarters", he will naturally wait until he was put outside before relieving himself. And that's exactly what happened.
Now that doesn't mean that I kept him locked up all day. That would be abuse. Not only did I made sure I put him out at regular intervals, but we also went for walks together outside, and played with her toys in the house (under strict supervision so that he didn't relieve himself in the house).
One of the hardest parts of the whole process was being consistent. Personally, I didn't like seeing him locked up in a crate for large parts of the day. I got him to be a companion, and to hang around the house with me. But I also realized that if I was not determined to potty train him, then we would have a very strained relationship during the years ahead. It's no different than being disciplined and consistent enough to potty train a child. You've got to keep at it for the benefit of the child, and the family he's a part of.
Thankfully, Rocko was a quick learner, and I had him trained within a month. During that month, as Rocko grew older, I begin to reduce the amount of time he spent in the crate. After that month, the crate door was always open, and he went in and out as he pleased, always going to the door of the house when he needed to go out.
There is a trainer in New York, in Patchogue actually that used to train police dogs, and specialty dogs who is very reputable. I went to him for about 3 months which was the first class of the 2 part obedience class. I was signed up for the second class but we moved before, and I wasnât able to have him physically train Rocko anymore with all the other dogs. He has a website with the same training that you can do on your own time at home, and I have been using that and another self training program for a while now. I put the links in the source box below. Remember one thing when your doing this, IT TAKES TIME. It has to be a constant thing, you have to do it over and over again, and always reinforce it. Good luck with your training, and your fun filled life with your dog.
