I dont know what size to get him now. I would rather haalf one without a divider and buy him a new and better one later. What are the dimensions of a 5 month old male Golden Retriver?

Get a large quality wire crate now, and use the divider so that it is big enough for your dog to comfortably stand up, turn around, and lay down in. That's all. Adjust as he grows.

There's absolutely no point in getting a brand new crate just because you want to buy him a 'newer and better one', just get him a quality one and keep it clean and I guarantee it will be just as good..

Joie is the only one who has given you something close to a correct answer.

My Siberian females do fine in a 300-400 size crate. You DO NOT need to go any bigger, certainly not 48"!!

For a plastic crate, this will do:

Go with the 36"L x 24"w x 26"H

For a wire crate, choose something with similar dimensions.
