I'm getting a large smooth collie/German sheperd, and I know I need a leash, collar, bed, food and a vet. What else do I need to welcome this beautiful dog home?

Getting a puppy. What expenses do i need to save up for?

i

I getting an Australian Shepherd or a Papillon dog.
Can you list off everything i need to pay for?
Including the supplies for the dog. :] thanks

Answer
Well, the first expense is obvious-the dog. (If it is not free.) Buy plenty of toys.*My puppy has about 7.* (Try Food City. They usually have dog toys for a dollar each. Most dog toys sell for $5 or more a piece.) Water and food dishes are kind obvious. ($10 max.) Dog food (we buy a large bag of Science Diet Small Bites for about $40 and it lasts us roughly a month with a fully-grown Chihuahua, a fully-grown wire-hair terrier, and a Beagle puppy.) Puppy shots are important. (Usually the first set costs about $100.) Micro-chipping is a good idea if you can afford it. I'm not sure exactly how much it costs. Tie-outs are a great investment. (Family Dollar sells them for $5 a piece.) Brushes are important. (About $5?) Dog tooth brushes and tooth paste help prevent dental problems. ($6 to $$10.) You can get nail clippers if you want. Some people prefer to pay the very because it is a delicate process trying not to clip too much of the nail. Dog beds and crates can be purchased for about $125, could be a lot less depending on where you get them. They are only important if you don't plan on letting your puppy in the bed with you, or if you want to use crate training. Get some treats for training. Save some extra money in case your puppy gets sick. Your puppy also needs a collar and I.D. tags.(10- $18?) Deworming will be done when you take it to the vet for the first time, so don't bother doing it yourself. You will need to get it fixed, which costs about $240 for a 0-20 pound dog. It gets higher the bigger the dog is, so try and get it fixed early on. Dog shampoo is important, too. This shouldn't cost any more than $10, which is actually a bit high. Flea & tick medicine and heartworm prevention are important, too. They range in price depending on the size of the dog.
