I have to watch a dog for 3 days?

~Purple

My dad's friend is going to Chicago and I have to watch their 3 month old pekingese. THeir dog is not pottytrained and I crate train my puppy. My puppy's crate is obviously too small for the both of them...I think they will bring over their dogs crate, hopefully they will. At her house they keep their dog in the garage withthe crate in a plypen. MY question is should I leave her crate in the sunroom in my house? She is use to being outside....plus this way she has room to run around in......My sun room is a room outside but it has screens as walls and also it is closed off.. Should I just leave her indoors with my puppy and do the same crate training method for her too?
YEs I agree I think keeping a dog of AY age outside is very cruel

Answer
I would follow your normal routine and treat their dog like yours. I would also let them know that pekes are very susceptible to overheating and share your concern about it being outside all the time. Maybe where you crate train, you could teach them how to do this?

crate while at work??

well im going to chicago in a few days and im gonna be away for a week and my moms said shell keep the dog in a crate while at work becuz we got her a few days ago and is kind of potty trained...she is a small 6 month old maltese and would be in there from 8 to 3 a few days or 8 to 7 would this be okay??its just for a week untill i come bak and once potty trained shell be sleeping in my room on the ground with her own bed
she needed a freakin home..and i think my aunt or grandma might be able to do that and also my mom would be able to let her out in the morning and would socialize with her and shes also very lazy unless you hit the ground and my brother and i play with her alot so shes always tired from excersie

Answer
That is really a good idea on your mom's part. The pup will be safe and sound there. Do not worry because it is not too long for a 6 month dog to be confined. Especially considering that the average dog spends 8+hours asleep in a day!

It is best because your dog, if loose could really regress on housetraining and get into a habit of having accidents in the house, or she might find something to chew up and ingest or she can get into other things and hurt herself. At this adolescent stage, the crate is really the safest thing when she is alone, and the best idea in terms of training and behavior.

On the other hand, when your mom comes home, she should give the dog about 30-60 minutes of supervised playtime and some good aerobic activity, like chasing a favorite toy about 20 times!

Sounds like you are a good dog parent!
