How do big dogs fly in a plane?

Q. I have a siberian husky that is really furry doesn't like the heat but will tolerate it when she has to (with proper hydration). Shes 60lbs and travels a lot in the car but I wonder about a plane.
I need to know if its possible to fly with a dog like mine. It would be for about a hour and half. No stops. During the cool of the day.

How can I make this happen? Does anyone have experience with this? Looking for some pointers.

Kenneled in the cargo area of the plane. You will need an airline-approved dog crate, you can buy it at Petsmart, Petco, ETC. You also have to keep food & water in said kennel.

They need to be reasonable price, and comfortable enough.

My dog is a one year old Maltese.
Where can I get the crates, and how much would they cost at an average?
Even better, I'm kind of cheap, so anywhere that they sell them for a really cheap price, please tell me.

I need one just to 'crate-train' her.

Pets Mart and PetCo both sell metal crates that are sturdy and durable, which I reccomend because they are easy to clean and collapse for travel. The size needed for your Maltese would run about $30.00 to $50.00, but you'd only have to buy one. You can get blankets and cushions to put in the bottom of them to make them comfy and clip water bottles to the side. I'd recommend the metal ones over the plastic carriers and fabric covered ones. They are much easier to clean if your dog has an accident. Good Luck.

How big should the crate be when crate training?

I bought a collapsible crate from petco for our new jack russle puppy. I bought it big enough so it will fit him comfortably as an adult dog as well. Was that a mistake? I ask because I was told in order to potty train a puppy using the crate training method the crate needs to be just big enough for them to lay down in. Is that true?

Any potty training tips because I don't really want to buy a smaller crate at this point.
Thanks you guys! It's our first dog and it was seriously ticking me off he kept going potty in his crate :P I'll block off half of it... The answer was so simple I feel like a retard.

The crate should be big enough for him to stand up and lay down. They should not have room to really stretch out or to walk around. If they can poo in one corner and lay down in another IT'S TOO BIG. Once the pup had learned, he can be moved up to a crate that is twice his size.
Make sure it is a wire crate with tons of ventelation. You can make your dog sick if he gets to hot. (upset tummy)

Best way to teach a dog NO is to put a handful food on the ground in between you and the pup. When he goes for the food, cover it with you hand and say NO. When he leaves it alone, give him ONE pellet of the food from A DIFFERENT place. Don't give it to him from the pile. That teaches him it was ok to eat from that pile.
Never spend too long on one lesson. They get REALLY bored really quick. 10 mins at most. Come back to it in an hour if you have to.
Never repremand for them not learning or getting something wrong. They have to have a BIG learning curve!
Shoving your dogs face in the poo they left on your floor will only get you vet bills from your dogs nose getting infected.
When they are in trouble... yelling is enough. They understand when you are over them screaming at them. Don't make it worse by hitting them.
END ON A GOOD NOTE!! If after a couple good tries stop and play with them. They will not listen once they get bored.
LOVE THEM!!!

I'm looking for a site where I can find good deals on dog beds/crate mats. Between two puppies and an adult border collie, we need some beds for them, and moneys a bit tight.
I've looked at Foster and Smith, petco and petsmart online, and they don't really have any good 'deals', so if you know of any other sites I could look at, let me know please.

I am having trouble finding a 30-40 dollar wire mesh dog crate for my new puppy. I mean the dog will only be 7 pounds when full grown so it doesn't need to be giant. I have tried Petco but they only have the one I want online and the shipping is alot. Any suggestions?

Whatever wire crate you get, DO NOT buy a Petmate wire kennel that has been sold in Walmart stores!! Here is a link showing what has happened to puppies left in these crates. http://www.kennelsafety.com/ We had all heard about this several years ago. A friend of mine sold a pup a few years back. The people had the pup for 5 days, before they called her and told her that the pup had been killed by a Petmate wire kennel! Look at the pictures on that link to see how it is constructed. Just make sure that whatever crate that you buy, it has secure hooks and connectors when the crate is put together.

I'm hoping to find a wire dog crate that is at least 33" H for under $100. Right now my dog has a 30'' crate, and it's a tad short. They seem to be just over at places like Petsmart/ Petco. Is there somewhere where they are a tad cheaper, on-line is fine!

Ebay or Craigslist. Or you could find a local rescue near you, and see if they'll trade you for your 30" crate + a donation to their rescue =) I know the rescue I volunteer for would do it because they're not losing out and they'll get a donation.

If you go to petfinder.com and type in your zipcode it'll bring up some rescues near you that you can contact.
