Receiving a dog overseas - is this suspicious?

My gut is telling me this is odd. A woman answered my craigslist ad for a GSD saying she has a four month old with all papers, AKC certified, that she can't keep because the country she is in will not allow the dog. She said she has two weeks to send her back. She wants me to send the airport $125 for a new travel crate and asked basic questions, if I'm a breeder, have kids. She then asked for my name, number, address, and my nearest airport.

I'm not sure what to do. She doesn't want any direct money for the actual dog, but it seems odd. Thoughts?

Definitely a scam. One of those ancient copy-and-paste ones that are almost identical every time they're sent out. I've personally received three - one for a siberian husky, one for a german shepherd, and one for a shih-tzu. (Keeping in mind that I've only ever posted on Kijiji looking for a GSD)

It's a really pathetic ruse that gets really old really fast. What I noticed in all three of the e-mails I received was that the text was colored, and the woman kept using "dear" in almost every sentence. Example being;

"so you really want this puppy, ok dear?"

If you think it might be a scam, just walk away. Have you ever heard of an entire country banning a single breed of dog?

This would be an adult dog who I'd vet check and get a health guarantee.

Don't understand the "health guarantee" - if you have health scores for the parents then that's all the guarantee you're going to get; if you're insistent on an adult dog, then get his hips and elbows PennHip'd or OFA'd, and get his eyes done by CERF or Optigen.

It's hard to say what you're getting with a "used" dog - you don't know his genetic history, generally, and you don't know how he was raised. People tend to not be transparent with stuff like that. You may find that the dog acts completely different in your environment. I wouldn't pay more than the going rate of your local shelter/rescue for an adult dog, by the way.

Tips? Take it slow, see if he has any off points or triggers, don't treat him like a human, enrich your understanding of canine behavior, and enjoy him/her.

Please I need advise..Dog/Dad trouble?

Please I need help. My Japanese Spitz of 4 years is in huge trouble. We just moved from a condo to a house and my parents said that they don;t want the dog in the house so we have to keep her outside. the problem is that she has always lived in the house sense she was little and well lately she's been really aggresive and i know its because shes angry with us. Earlier today she got in the house and my dad got mad, yelled at her and she growled and snapped at my father. he got mad and kicked her and after went and beat her with a plastic crate..its not the first time he's don't it either. My dog is aggresive went harmed so she gets mad when they hurt her and everytimes my dad hurts her she gets mad and turns back onto him which angers my father more. Untill now shes never been this aggreisive and its more with my dad.

How can I make him understand that not shes hurting because we are leaving her outside when she has lived inside all her live. I've tryed talking to him and telling him hes abusing my dog but he yells at me and says she has to learn. I;ve told him yelling at her and hurting her won't do anything positive, but negative. He told me that is she growls or attempts to bite him again that she will let her go on the streets or take her to a dog pound. I really need some advise on what to do, how can I avoid my dog being taken from me and how to make my dad understand.

I'm so sorry to have to tell you this, but you need to rehome your dog, immediately. I know that is probably the last thing you want to do, but let me be very clear - if you do not, your dog WILL be taken away and presumed aggressive and un-rehomeable. Your Father will not listen to you and I know how frustrated and sad you must be. But your Father is going to seriously damage your dog permanently, and your dog will eventually really hurt him and I dont really blame the dog.

Please, look inside your heart and find that poor dog a new home. You seem like a good person and I know this must be hard but this has to stop, immediately. Find a home where someone knows your dog's history and is able to deal with an aggressive dog - don't go to the humane society, as they may put her to sleep. Look for a home, post ads on Kijiji, anyone who is able to really give this dog special attention and rehabilitate her. Should I give my dog to my Dad?

Last year, my Dad's dog passed away in my arms. She was 14, & I'm very happy I was there with her, because my Dad works all day & is hardly home. He was OBSESSED with this dog, she was his baby! But because she was so old, she'd just lay around & wait for him. He really wants my dog now, who's a pyreneese/husky mix. He's only 7 months old & over 70 pounds! If he isn't crated or kept in my fenced in yard while I'm gone, he gets bored & tears things up-he's a puppy. My Dad always walked his dog several times a day, but while he's gone I know he'd leave this dog out. My Dad doesnt like crating & doesnt have a fenced in yard.
I keep trying to tell him, he's never going to find another dog like his last one. It'll be hard! She was just so old & well behaved. He owns a restaurant chain & is never home during the day. He really wants a dog to come home to. I gave him my cat, & he loves it! But he still wants the company of a dog.
Should I give him mine? Or wait till he's older. Or should I try to get him to get a fence? I don't know! He has a really nice house & if he gets a puppy, they need to stay entertained or they'll get into anything. My Dad is pretty much alone & will get a dog either way.

**No, it really doesn't bother me that I gave my Dad my cat & am considering giving my dog. I still get to see them & I know my Dad spoils his pets rotten!

Check at animal shelters.. There are tons of well trained dogs that would be perfect for him. It sounds like a puppy wouldn't be a good fit for his lifestyle since they need a ton of attention. There are dogs that need homes and would love being spoiled by your dad. I suggest that you take your dad to a shelter or SPCA and tell them about his lifestyle and they will find a perfect fit for him. Also, if you don't want to spend a ton of money, there are dogs on websites such as kijiji that are free and their owners just want them to go to a loving home. Where can I put my dogs when theres no one home?

Like when I got to school (no ones home, my parents are working) I put them in the garage 'cause therees no other place. But, it takes me a long time everyday to get them in, the big dog (Great dane) runs around the house trying to get away but I have no other play to put them. If I put the outside the little one will find a way to escape the backyard (although we have fences, nothing works). If we keep them in the house, they'll pee all over the place, rip things and make a mess. I cant hire a dog sitter cause I dont have enough money.. Where should I put them when I got to school or is there someway to calm them down?
The greatdane is 1 year old and the puggle is 2 years old.

The best thing you can do is to crate train your dogs.
One dog alone can make a lot of mess, two dogs together can feed off eachother and create a disaster of a mess.
Crate training is not cruel and it keeps them safe (and your stuff safe) while you are gone.
Crate training also helps housetraining because a dog won't generally soil their "dens".
Dogs mostly sleep during the day anyway, and your dogs are old enough that they can hold it for
several hours.

Buy a crate for each dog that's big enough for them to stand, turn around and lie down, but not bigger. If money is an issue, try craigslist or Kijiji they always have second hand crates.

Make the crate a nice place for them. Give them a nice chew toy so they'll relax while you leave.
Never use the crate as punishment.

About how much does a yorkie puppy cost?

I'm 15 years old and I've been convincing my parents to get a dog for about 2 years now! They finally said it's a maybe and i'm 90% sure it's going to be my christmas present. Please tell me about how much it is to buy a yorkie puppy, white or brown it doesn't matter. How much for the food? Shots? I need to be prepared with the correct information to tell my parents so i can finally get a dog!

From a reputable breeder and not a puppy mill yorkie at a pet store/kijiji... probably 1200 or so...Make sure all the proper health testing has been done, and that you've done your research...

Yorkies are prone to: Early dental disease, retained deciduous teeth, liver shunts, heart murmurs, luxating patellas, and collapsing trachea.

The chances of an unhealthy puppy goes up when it comes from a pet store or backyard breeder.

Vaccines are about 80$ each and you need at least 3 distemper.parvo combo shots, as well as 1 rabies shot... for the first year.
Deworming should be done multiple times, and is usually around 30$ per round.
Food varies greatly on brand, and quality.
Then you need supplies.. leash, collar, bowls, crate, combs, brush, shampoo, nail clippers, toys, bed, etc.
Pet Insurance- depends on which plan you go with and what you want for a deductible

Locking my Dog in the bathroom while IM gone?

Im just about to take him form the shelter.
Now I dont have the money to buy a big crate for crate training, so can I buy him a cushion and lock him in the bathroom while Im gone in my job ???

Crates generally go for $100. If you can't afford a crate, I'm just wondering, how are you going to afford the upkeep of this dog?
Why don't you try a site like Kijiji or Craigslist and find one second-hand. I got mine used for $30.

You can leave your dog in the bathroom if you need to - just make sure you remove EVERYTHING that the dog can chew - so pretty much everything in the bathroom.
