I lost the gate to my indoor dog crate but i dont want to buy a whole new crate! I meed to use the crate because my cat has a broken leg and needs to be confined to an indoor dog crate. Please help!

Answer
Cut off the side of one of those plastic wash baskets maybe and use some duct tape to keep it in place. it's ok to do if its temporary. I'm sure you'll find spare pieces for crates on a pet supply website :)

How can I repair a Wire dog Crate?

Roshelle B

I borrowed a wire dog crate (Coated wire pretty heavy duty) and my crazy beagle messed up the front including pulling some wires off. Is there some way I can fix this at home? I plan on telling her but I at least want to have it fixed!
Buying a new one is not a option right now, That is why I borrowed one. I did not think he would do this but things happen! With recently buying a house as well as 3 new rescues a $200 crate is just not in the budget...

Answer
My dog did the same thing to ours. I repaired mine by taking wire coat hangers and using a pair of linesman pliars.

I wove the new wire to match the old grid, I hope I made myself clear and I hope it helps.

Are there dog crates that will accommodate two dogs with a divider and two doors?

The Truth

We have limited space and I was wondering if any of you have seen dog crates made specifically for two dogs, with a divider between the dogs and two doors.

Answer
There ARE crates that would work like that, but you would have to do a solid divider (like a thick slab of wood) or two wire dividers set inches apart from one another to prevent the dogs from reaching through and getting at one another.

One wire divider would leave enough room for them to get at one another if they get agitated (which can happen), and ears/tails can be injured or lips torn up. My dog's crate has three doors - one in the middle front and one on each end. I could put dividers in there and be able to put one dog on each side no problem.

This one would work just as well (one door on each end):

Please remember that the crate should be only big enough for a dog to sit, stand, turn, and lay down comfortably. That may be difficult to do if you divide one up like that. You may end up with a space that's too big, which may lead to elimination in the crate if the dog(s) can sleep away from it.

And i would NEVER recommend letting two dogs share a crate - if they're shut in and get agitated (again, VERY possible) then they'll fight. Also, a crate should be a dog's personal den. Some dogs can get defensive over their spaces!

I am having trouble finding a 30-40 dollar wire mesh dog crate for my new puppy. I mean the dog will only be 7 pounds when full grown so it doesn't need to be giant. I have tried Petco but they only have the one I want online and the shipping is alot. Any suggestions?

Answer
Whatever wire crate you get, DO NOT buy a Petmate wire kennel that has been sold in Walmart stores!! Here is a link showing what has happened to puppies left in these crates. http://www.kennelsafety.com/ We had all heard about this several years ago. A friend of mine sold a pup a few years back. The people had the pup for 5 days, before they called her and told her that the pup had been killed by a Petmate wire kennel! Look at the pictures on that link to see how it is constructed. Just make sure that whatever crate that you buy, it has secure hooks and connectors when the crate is put together.

What should I put in the bottom of my dogs crate after surgery?

Audrey1998

So my dog is having a hematoma drained tomorrow and surgery is required. The vet said it will be really messy after because they leave a spot open so ot can drain. So we bought a medium sized dog crate. Any ideas on what I should put on the bottom the crate that I can change out. Should I just use towels are do they make stuff for this?

Answer
Put something soft and familiar like his fav blanket or bed and then put a wee wee training pad onto and just change that out. Towels will work as well but may not be as comforting to the dog.

Hope your furry baby feels better soon and heals quickly!
