Best product to use to neutralize dog urine smell from dog run?

We have a wood chip dog run and the urine smell is so bad that the dog is completely repulsed by it and won't go anywhere near it anymore. I am looking for something safe to use outdoors or possibly an organic / enzyme product. In the meantime I have been hosing it down and there are crazy mushrooms growing. I thought about another layer of woodchips...Any suggestions? Thanks for your help!
I have decided to take Sas1184's advice and rake the old mulch out. I am going to try this enzyme product called Odormute to treat the area then add fresh mulch. http://www.odormute.com/pet_index.html

I believe the wood chips underneath will get urine soaked and should probably be raked out and replaced. I met a dog in a kennel like this and I cant imagine how else you could do it as eventually the kennel became completely saturated. You are right about an enzyme product but that would get pricey with such a big area you might try Vinigar.

Could i make a guinea pig cage out of a old large dog cage?

I have a 6 year old Greman sheperd mix who is verry big. she has one of the extra large dog kennels. its whire not plastic or anything elce. the bace of it is plastic but i can take that out. also if i lined the bottem with something what would be good to use. i was thinking like wood and cardbord but would that work the best or do i have to do something elce.

Yes, you can use that and with some imagination, make a cool cage.

Be sure the piggie's feet would not be exposed to any wire flooring. This can cause very tragic injuries and sores. Wood and cardboard are not good choices for flooring. You need something more stable and water resistant like coroplast or linoleum.

I'm getting two chinchillas tomorrow and I really don't want to pay for a 70 dollar cage when I can get a better one online, So i was wondering can they temporarily stay in a dog kennel that's pretty big?

Purchase the right cage. Your cage needs to be large enough to accommodate your chinchilla and in a relatively quiet room. For chinchillas, the bigger the cage, the better. They like to run around and bounce off cage walls as well as hop small platforms.

Make sure your cage is chin-proof. No hard plastics or soft plastics and only chinchilla-safe wood in the cage. Chinchillas need to chew and will chew on anything and everything they can. They can nibble through wood without a problem.


Everyone starts with a small cage and, within a year or two, upgrades to something bigger and nicer. Why not take the plunge right away and save yourself the expense of purchasing two cages? By getting a cage you will be happy with forever you will save yourself the annual search for "the perfect cage".

Of course, if you REALLY want to save money you can build your own cage. This might be a good choice anyway, as it's the only way you might achieve several features that you want.

HOW TO DO IT

So you need a sturdy metal cage. If you're keeping adults 1 inch gaps are fine. If you are planning on breeding you'll need no larger than 1 inch by 1/2 inch spacing between the bars. Wooden or wire (or some unchewable surface) are a must for shelves. Ramps should be eliminated as they present an unnecessary hazard. You don't need a very large cage, especially if you plan on letting your chinchilla our for frequent exercise. The bottom may be solid or wire, but if it is wire give your chinchilla a piece of wood to rest their paws on.
The Ferret Nation cage is easily adaptable for the chinchilla with some custom pans. It can be divided into two separate cages or provide one huge cage. The cage should cost about $175 plus shipping, and you can get the custom pans for a reasonable price from Bass Equipment. The ramps are removable and you can upgrade afterwards to wooden shelves (purchased separately).

This is probably the most popular choice among knowledgeable chinchilla owners, as it is an attractive cage that will last a very long time.

Another solid choice is a chinchilla cage from Quality Cage. These cages come with wooden shelves, and they have cages of several sizes. This is a cage you would also be happy with, and you may well be getting a wheel from Quality Cage anyway.

You might find a similar cage locally, although that seems more and more difficult as the pet stores seem to be moving more to online sales. Smaller metal cages will be available, but I strongly urge you to carefully consider whether you will be happy with this cage in six months or a year. Of course, you should also consider the space you have, for these cages can run rather large (perfect for that big exercise wheel!)

You may be considering a more commercial cage if you are becoming a breeder.

If you can find the right cage, and you're a little handy, you also have the option to build a cage.

How to stabilize a dog kennel?

I recently bought two 10x10 dog kennels (found here http://www.amazon.com/PetSafe-Box-Kennel-Pets-10x10x6/dp/B003GD784O) with intentions to combine them (my dog is bigger and 10X10 which seemed to be the biggest size just sounded cramped). The task sounded easy enough-I have made each side 20 feet long, adding stabilizer bar in the middle of each length adding PVC pipe tees to connect the bars to each other (this may have been my first mistake). The structure held up surprisingly well until the wind blew and I tried to inch it over a bit. Then the stabilizer bars collapsed. I want to make sure the structure is stable before I put the fencing on. I have thought about putting wood across each corner to form stabilizing triangles, and buying new PVC tees that fit over the pipes instead of inside. However, before I spend more money, I figured I would ask people who probably know more. Any ideas?

The link you gave us is not functional therefore no one can get a visual about the kennel you are writing about. Do an edit to your question and update us with the new link.

UPDATE: This is an easy fix. Just butt the two units up against each other and leave out the chain link in the middle. Next you can either conjoin the two mating sections together using metal strapping and nut/bolt fasteners or you can drill through the aligned steel pipes and bolt the sections together. It's the same concept as knocking out a small bedroom wall in order to expand the size of a living room. Like the AT&T commercial states, "It's not Complicated." Also, thank you changing the link it worked just fine.

How do I build a stall for a horse?

I want to build a dog kennel similar to a stall but not exact. This way my guys are protected from the elements and I can easily collect fecal matter and monitor their intake of water. They would only be in there during the day.
Sorry I see stable as the whole thing while a stall is just a stall within a stable. It will be a dog kennel with a similar build to keep all elements out.

if you are in the uk and building a permanent stall then you need planning permission. there are lots of different ways you could do the whole thing in brick or half brick/ half wood or all wood, then there are different eays to do the roof. you can buy ready made ones that are flat packed and you dont need permission for these as they dont have foundations and can be taken down easily.
