How do you train dog almost two years old where to go potty?

We recently got a healthy, happy cocker spaniel who had a brief career (few months) in the show dog ring and are surprised that while he does his business on morning and evening walks, he has less control in and around the house throughout day. We'd like him to do in designated area. We've tried the special gravel, pads, crating (at night). We think he was kept in garage kennel with his former original owner who raises lots of show dogs. Not sure how that childhood plays into current situation.

I think you would train him similar to a puppy. Take him out the same door (on a leash to start) and take him to the same spot everytime. In a corner or something an area about 5ft x 5ft and command them to go potty. When they do reward them by saying their name and how good they are. The bigger fuss you make means more reinforcement for the dog. If he does not go in that area w/i 10 mins, than bring him back in and try again in 10-15 minutes. It is gonna take a little time and work, but it can be done. You can also try the Pee Post from Petco. It works on the same principle except that you put a yellow pheromone treated post in the center of your imaginary box.

I'm a dog lover trying to figure this out! I've heard of akc ckc etc. but I don't understand them. I'm wanting to eventually show a dachshund and maybe if she passes all health and fitness and maybe win a show or two breed her bit only if she passes requirements. But I need help understanding all the kennel clubs. Like what are differences how are they connected or what ever also tips on training a show dog and also how do I pick out a show quality dog?

You've posted from the US site, so you need a dog that's eligible to show conformation in the AKC. A Canadian born dog that's registered with the Canadian Kennel Club can be registered with the AKC and then shown.

The CONtinental Kennel Club is a con. It's for backyard breeders and puppy mills. Pups that only have ConKC papers are not eligible for AKC registration or AKC conformation events.

The major diference between "show"bloodlines and non show bloodlines is the quality of the entire bloodline, which leads to quality in the individual.
Show breeders, or at least 99% of them, only breed the best to the best that they can possibly find to breed. That means basing breeding decisions on such things as health, temperament, and conformation to the standard of the breed. There are almost always pet quality puppies in every "show" litter. These are the pups that maybe have a small mismark, or might have a little too wide a head, or whatever, that keeps them from the show ring. These puppies make great pets. They are almost always crate, leash and potty trained by the time they are old enough to "grade". We "grade" a litter at around 8 wks, and 10-12 weeks.
A non show bloodline has been bred for money, or "because we heard they need to have a litter", or because "he/she is so sweet", or to teach the kids about the birds and bees. No careful, and expensive health testing, no expensive stud fees, ultrasounds or screening of prospective homes.
Non show breeders rarely do rescue or take back the dogs they breed,
Show breeders are known for their work in rescue and for taking back any dog they are responsible for.
Dogs that are from show lines are almost NEVER found in shelters, the non show bloodlines are almost always the purebreds you find in shelters.

Showing dogs is a very expensive, time consuming, life altering hobby.

I know there are shows there, find one in your area and go meet some people with your breed and have them help you evaluat your dog.
I'm sure you have a great dog! But, there is a LOT to making a succesful show dog, one of which is money, a well bred dog, and practice and training.

Though my current dog is my first "show" dog, he is not the first dog I've shown.

My previous dog, a mixbreed, had her UACH UCDX (retired with 1 leg towads her UUD), EAC-V, EJC-V, O-TNO, ASCA/AMBOR CDX, MB-CD, R1-MCL 1991-2008 (she also had some flyball points)

My current dog, a Standard Wirehair Dachshund, 4 years old, has his
AKC/UKC CH (went BIS), UKC CDX UAG2, AKC CD NA (has 2 legs towards his RN), BHP-1,
NADAC EAC, OJC, TNO, WV-N
USDAA PD1, PS1, PG1, PR1 (currently with 2 legs towards various PD2 titles)
Rated Excellent from the DTK (Deutsch Teckel Klub)

I can't compare the dogs. Both dog do/did everything I asked of them, both willing, both quick learners. Even the first time I went hunting with the dachsie, the mixbreed (who was elderly at the time) tried her darndest to squeeze her beagle sized body into a woodchuck hole.

My dachshund has not yet been bred.

Need a safe and lovable home for my dog. How much should i charge?

He is a 1 year old purebred American Eskimo. I have all his paper work showing who his parents are and who the breeder was. All his shots are up to date and he is in amazing health. I will also be giving his kennel, bed, toys, food/water dish, his food and all the other little accessories i have for him. He also has been recently groomed. I paid between 1500 and 1600 for him when he was 12 weeks old. He is also eligible to become a show dog if the next family he goes to chooses to have him become one. The only reason i have to find a new home for him is because i am never home enough to spend any time with him. Any information will be helpful.

A dog like that needs to be returned to the breeder. If he is show quality, it is probably written in the contract that you must return him if you can no longer care for him. Check your paperwork.

Have a Grand Opening with drawings for prizes and free goodies for the dogs- Like snacks with your business card attached or munchies for the owners with your business name on petit fours in the shape of biscuits. How do they come up with show dogs' names?

I love them, but I'm curious. And I think dogs from a common breeder will all share one of the names? Have any of you tried to come up with a show dog type name for your pet? We were trying it the other night and had a hoot. It was funny. "Alacazam's Sugar Coated Monty Python." LOL (don't even ask how we got to that one, i can't remember.)

Good breeders insist that their kennel name is attached to the registration name. When I use to breed, I always wrote my kennel name on the AKC registration application, since the AKC won't accept any papers that have been altered. Also, some breeders choose a theme for the litter, where it's required, or at the very least suggested, that the reg. name follow that theme. Some breeders actually registered each puppy in their OWN name first, choosing each reg. name, and then transfer ownership to the buyer. That way, the breeder HAS chosen the reg. name. I never cared what my pup's call names were, but most people did try to find a common ground with the litter theme and their call name. Some examples of my litter themes were wines, cruise ships, the word eclipse, etc. Here's another example of one of my pup's names. Reg. name was *kennel name) Crimson 'N' Clover, and her call name was CC. Of all the pups I ever produced, I can say there was only one call name I hated and that was Pinky. Can you imagine a Doberman named Pinky? Yuck!

Add: My new Dobe pup's registered name is (kennel name) Molten Lava. She's a red/rust Dobe b*tch with the call name Ava, which happens to be in the last word Lava.

Add #2: Just to let you know that their *show name* IS their registered name.
