Where do you put a dog crate in a car?

When transporting a puppy in carrier crate (Plastic with metal gate) where do you put it inside a car? The front passenger seat, or the back seats? And also how do you secure the carrier crate safely into the car?

Answer
If it fits it is better to put on the back seat.I secure the crate with the seat belt, put the shoulder belt through the handle and the lap belt around the crate. You can secure by pulling it out all the way and letting it go back,it should lock into place.

Taking your dog to the vet!?

Joli

So my family and I are going out of town tomorrow and we have to take our four dogs to the vet and boarding center. I hate taking my dogs in the car, because they get really excited and happy when we are there, so they jump and scratch me. My dad and I always take the dogs and my mom never wants anything to do with it...which kinda makes me mad. Anyways I have two pit bulls, a large terrier and a shepherd mix.
Anyways..I was wondering if you had any tips on how to make this car ride smoother! It is about 15 minutes away from my house. I was also wondering if you think how my dad gets the dogs all excited is the root of the problem: He will say lets go lets go.. and let them in the garage and hop in the car. He never has them sit or anything before hand.
PLEASE I need tips and HELP

My dogs almost always ride in crates whenever we go on a car trip, even though they are generally well behaved. Especially if I am hauling more than one dog. Safer for the dog & for anyone else in the car.

Unless you've got crates- and room to put 4 of them in your vehicle (or even 2, if the dogs get along well enough to crate together for 15 minutes), I doubt this advice will help much if you're leaving tomorrow. But for future reference, it might not be a bad idea. They also make removable wire barriers that wall off the rear half of the vehicle so the dogs stay in the back. Mostly made for SUV's, vans and wagons, I think there may be some that work in smaller cars. Again, probably not gonna help you tomorrow, but might be something to try later.

Lack of training overall is why your dogs behave badly on car rides & other places. They don't know how to behave in new/exciting/distracting situations because nobody has spent time teaching them what's expected. Your dad getting them excited probably doesn't help matters much....BUT I'd wager they'd get just as worked up on their own from the car ride & being in a new surrounding.

There is no solution that'll stop their behavior by tomorrow, short of giving them tranquilizers (kind of overkill for a 15 minute car ride, lol- besides you'd have to go to the vet for that anyway). Training and socialization is the only way to fix this kind of behavior, and it will require a good deal of time & effort. You or your dad or whoever is primarily responsible for the dogs- take them places more often and work on their obedience & manners. They need to get used to being in new, distracting situations AND they need consistent reinforcement that the "rules" apply no matter where you are, or what you're doing, or how many exciting things are distracting the dog. Only way the dog will figure it out is if you work with him.

Maybe stay at home with your mom this time- let Dad try and wrangle his 4 unruly dogs by himself? He's the adult, he could have taken the initiative to train his dogs from the beginning & ensure they had decent manners. But he didn't, and now the dogs are out of control, not fair for the dogs or any of the people who encounter them, nobody likes a hyperactive untrained dog. Maybe if Dad has to deal with the consequences by himself, he'll decide to do something about their behavior? Worth a shot, anyway.

Not much else is going to help the car ride, unfortunately.....if you're forced to go along, most likely you're just going to have to deal with whatever happens, there is not an easy overnight solution for this one, sorry :)
