I know you can go to Petsmart and similar stores. They just seem a bit pricey to me. I have a full grown border collie mix. I normally do not crate her but eventually we will be going to some competitions where she will need to be in a crate for a while.
She weighs about 48 pounds.
Also any suggestions on how to buy the correct size, any recommended brands, and other buying tips would be be appreciated.

Are you looking for an airline crate or a wire crate or a soft-sided crate? Are you looking for a collapsable crate or is that not important to you?
Craigslist is a good place to start looking, and I have also had good luck at garage sales and thrift stores sometimes. Keep your eyes open, know what you want, and know what you are willing to pay. The size you need is based on her height and length, not her weight. Give her 6" of headroom and at least 6" of extra length where length is measured from butt to front paws when she is laying down.

How do you train an older dog to stop pissing in the house?
Q. I have a small male dog who pisses on things in the house, like marking his territory. How can I prevent him from doing this while I am out? Cages do not work, he is one of three. The others play freely during the day and are fine.

Please dont Beat your Dog with a newspaper as someone else suggested...Dont hit him at all or even scold him..This just creates a dog that will be nervous to pee around you when you try to take him out. If he is not neutered it Does help alot..Males tend to like to "Mark"their Territory! Old Dogs CAN learn new tricks..You should read up a bit on Crate training..I use this method and it is in no way cruel..They also make a product Called a Male Diaper Garmet Wrap and sell it at Petsmart..It goes ver the dogs Penis and wraps around his belly..You insert a sanitary napkin and when Ole Rover Lifts his Leg It makes the Pee stick to the dogs skin..It gives them the hint! you take it off when they go outside until they get the big picture.He will get where he wont Pee with the Wrap on and finaly figure out that Outside is what you want him to do..Praise him like crazy when he does go outside.....and be Patient Its hard I know!!!
