How to build a roof on a dog kennel?

We recently moved to a very busy rd and our landlord wont let us bring our two outside cats inside since its not safe for them to roam I put up a 10x10x6 dog kennel I put chicken wire and a tarp on top but when it rains the tarp gets filled and sinks down. How can I build a roof? What materials could I use or can u purchase an already made roof? I would put the tarp over the roof as well. Any ideas? Thanks!

This is easy all you need to do is put a wood stake in every corner of the chicken wire and ensure you cement the stakes down into the ground, you can then add a roof made from wood but ensure you put roof tiles on top of it, you can buy treated wood roof tiles and they are'nt expensive, you would have been better off with a small shed and a wire enclosure and sneak the cats in at the week ends, you should'nt have rented any place unless cats were allowed.

I have always cringed at the site of outside dogs they are either free roaming, tied up with a crappy dog house for cover or in a kennel all day and night. If you own a dog and keep him outside morning noon and night, why even own a dog anyway! They are part of the family and I can't imagine them being happy out there all the time. They need walked, socialized and to be in good health and clean smelling. I live in a big city where alot of the people keep their dogs outside and it's an inconvience to not be able to sleep soundly at night. They use these dogs as burglar alarms or they sell drugs and want some type of alert system, so they have dogs tied up in various spot over their yards. Even with a large kennel your dog is not getting what it needs in life. Why have a dog if you aren't going to care for them properly? Why not let them out during the day and crate them at night?
if you live in the country and have more than an acre and your dog is loose, this question is not geared towards you! This ? is geared towards the dogs that have no where to go!!!

I have 5 dogs and live in the country. All of them are inside dogs. Dogs want to be part of the "pack", meaning the family the dog is with. If they are seperated from that, they are not happy. A dog wants to be where you are not tied to a tree outside all the time. I have worked with abandoned and abused animals all my life (about30 years). I will NEVER understand WHY people treat God's creatures so badly. Life is life no matter what form it comes in. We were put here to TAKE CARE of that life not destroy it. Some people go around talking about how religious they are or how spiritual they are yet they abuse thier animals. The most religious or spiritual thing you can do is take care of the life that God has given us. Not just our lives but all lives that he put in our care.
