Answer
Don't listen to the first poster. Crates are a great way to train dogs and eventually become a safe home for your pet. My dogs LOVE their crates, they are cosy, warm and a safe place to go. After they get a long walk (one of three walks daily) they sleep in their crates all night.

If you can't afford a crate, you can't afford to own a dog.

I personally like plastic crates, where as some people like the medal ones. I find the plastic ones more cosy and secure for my dogs, less out and the open like the wire medal ones. Your Siberean Husky will weigh (full grown) 40-60lbs, therefore I suggest a 36" L X 25" W X 27" H crate - much too large for a puppy but he will eventually grow into it. Cost $89.99 - less then you will spend a month on high quality dog food - not very expensive. http://www.petco.com/product/11074/Petco-Classic-Kennel.aspx?CoreCat=MM_DogSupplies_CratesKennelsCarriers

The crate pad for inside will be another approx. $20-30.http://www.petco.com/product/110493/Precision-Pet-SnooZZy-Sleeper-Chocolate-Brown-Crate-Mat.aspx?CoreCat=MM_DogSupplies_CratesKennelsCarriers

ETA: I always buy a second hand one (fully bleached first) for the puppy stage. It's cheap and you don't have a puppy in a huge crate.

What would be a good size crate for a golden retreiver puppy to grow into?

and links are fiiine too ;]

Answer
A Precision Pet Crate Size 4000

These crates come with a divider (Which You REALLY WANT), and when your dog first goes into it you only want room for your dog to go in turn around and lay down. Also, be sure not to put down a blanket until your dog is potty trained. Otherwise, your dog will have go to the bathroom on the blanket, push it in the corner and sleep on a clean surface. When you see the mess (i hope) you clean up the mess, and over time this trains your dog to pee in the crate. One last tip, crate your dog whenever you cannot watch him/her. When potty training, your dog should be outside, and if he/she doesn't "go" they should be back in the crate. Wait about a half hour and repeat. When they go praise them, give him/her a treat and if you wish attach a command to it (Go potty).
