I learned from the dictionary that a crate is a wicker basket, then what is a dog crate? Isn't it the same as a dog house?

Answer
In the UK (or at least my part of it), a kennel is made of wood or plastic and is usually an outside shelter. I think the US terminology is 'doghouse'. It can also be a structure of individual outdoor runs and shelters for many dogs. A crate would generally be perceived as a travel-cage for transporting a dog when outside the house; crate-training whereby a metal or plastic cage or crate is used for indoor housetraining is fairly novel here.

Essentially, the words are interchangeable.

Can using an old plastic dog crate be dangerous even after cleaning?

I bought a used dog crate from good will that was very filthy but plan on washing it. I don't know if I want to use it for my future puppy. Can that material harbor parasites, fleas ect...
I bought it cause it was a good deal 8$.

Answer
It can't habor parasites, but it can harbor parovirus and distemper. I would clean it with bleach very thoroughly and then a good rinse before allowing your puppy to be inside of it. It takes a powerful cleaner, like bleach, to kill parvo and distemper! There are special cleaners for kennels, but they are expensive and you usually have to special order them.
