The Seeker

I know this sounds comical, and that it is really sad, but I am a self-admitted slow learner and typically I am the village idiot in any social setting, and I have no experience as a janitor. I may however have the opportunity to become one, and I would actually make a lot more money then what I am making now. I am worried however if I have the intelligence for it.

I can mop, sweep, dust, vacuum, and take out trash, but that's it, I've never buffed a floor, can't do landscaping, and have no experience doing plumbing or electrical-related work or changing out lightbulbs or changing lights in general like the ones used on ceilings.

On a personal note - If I get this job, I would be doing a lot more physical work, and would be working a lot more hours. I've had a very cushy job for most of my life, but the pay is terrible, and working there is essentially just one step above unemployment. If I can get this other job, it will be eight hours everyday, with weekends and some holidays off. I'll also be making almost ten thousand more dollars a year then what I am making now, but I am also a self-admitted lazy guy, and facing such an adjustment will be hard.

FYI - I lived with my parents until I was twenty-six, then I saved up, and moved out, and I was living on my own in an apartment for four years, but had to move back in with my parents almost four months ago at age thirty due to making little money. If I can get and keep this custodial job, I could move out again, and stay moved out.

My passions outweigh my fears, and I don't always wanna be some lazy and stupid single bum. I'd like to get my own place and be a working-man, but these insecurities and fears make me nervous. I.e. Quitting a well-established job to do something I have never done before.

This one time, back in 2006, I was fired on the second day when I was a dog kennel-tech because I was literally too dumb to figure the job out, and the person showing me the ropes would not show me anything, was extremely inpatient, and had a horrible temper. I called the boss, and left a voicemail complaining how rude this person was. The boss called me back and fired me.

So how does this all read besides really sad/funny?

Note - Committing suicide is not an option so no one suggest that please.

I also don't drive, so no need to worry about literally running into me on the highway if anyone is concerned.

Answer
I went to a technical school during high school and there was a program for mentally disabled students with extreme learning disabilities. Their program was called custodial services. They were taught just about everything custodial.
For having a learning disability you write very well.
I say go for it and be upfront about it. Tell them it takes awhile for you to catch on but you'll be one of the best and most loyal workers possible.
