Most affordable place to buy a 48" L, airline-approved, dog plastic crate? Esp. in Houston?

I'm having a devil of a time trying to find a 48" long plastic crate in Houston for my big GSD pup. All the stores I've checked carry nothing bigger than a 40 or 41" (and few do at that). I don't want a wire crate, which is the one thing they do carry in the 48" size. And online, the prices are really insane, mostly due to the shipping costs. I prefer to go with the plastic (like a Vari-Kennel 700 size) because I may end up moving out-of-state at some point, so I prefer having a potential double-usage for airline-approved travel. Plus, I also just think a plastic crate has a more cozy, sheltered feel than the metal crates, like the one which I have now and which I cover with a sheet (which he's destroyed).

Most sites I've checked online (and I've spent almost 3 days nonstop checking) have just a 40"L or 41"L crate. eBay had one Giant Vari-Kennel which (with shipping) would have been over $500. Craigslist Houston has nothing. My local Petsmart doesn't carry any plastic kennels over 40". The WalMart site doesn't carry any plastic kennels and I've even tried looking at a few feed stores in Houston, but again, nothing bigger than the 40" size.

HELP! Any suggestions and tips for places to look?

Answer
My only suggestions would be to check the local mom and pop type pet stores if you haven't already, and maybe other cities close by on Craigslist. Maybe even try and find a local Freecycle group.

I need to get from great falls montana to dayton ohio. Just me and my full grown german shepherd. I know i need to buy my own crate for him but thats about all i know. I need to leave ASAP. cant stress that part enough. I only have about 300$ to my name. thanks for reading.
Well HA! My mom just found one from helena to dayton for 200 plus 100 for the dog. thanks for taking the time to help me out though.

This isn't going to be the answer you want to hear, but it's not going to happen. The cheapest one-way fare from Great Falls to Dayton is just under $550 plus tax, meaning that it would be close to $600 just for the plane ticket. If you need a round-trip ticket, those are well over $400 before tax, but those fares also require 21-day advance purchase, meaning you couldn't buy that ticket and pay that fare for a flight sooner than that. (Even if you were wanting to travel with a week's notice, for example, you'd still be looking at paying close to $700 for a ticket.)

Additionally, flying with a dog isn't free -- in addition to having the proper crate, you'd also need to pay the fee to the airline for transporting your dog as cargo. Those fees depend on the airline, and could be as much as $100 each way.

To do what you want to do, especially on such short notice, is going to take considerably more money than you say you have right now. The only ways I can think of to save money on a last-minute plane ticket, such as Priceline or Hotwire, aren't advisable in this situation, because you don't get to choose your airline, and you might get put onto an airline that has restrictions regarding your dog that you can't meet. Again, this isn't the answer you want to hear, but unless you can come up with more money than what you have, what you're asking for just isn't realistic.
