Would u keep your dog outside with a kennel?

~funkymonk

Is it cruel? I can't keep her inside any more she is destroying my home and too rough with the kids. Its either outside kennel or rehome her.
Thanks everyone, she is a rotweiler and she is a lovely dog she has a lot to give and is so affectionate; I have been to numerous training classes but have never been able to stop her excitiment. She has 3 long walks a day but when left alone she destroys (chews, claws everything) my home and even urinates on the floor. I'm at my wits end, Ive tried everything else I can think of I dont want to get rid of her will break my heart. The other day was the final straw she jumped up at my daughter and broke her glasses in 2, she was only playing I just think I made a mistake getting her, Ive had big dogs (german shepherds) before and my brother had a rottie that was so placid and he never had any training! My girl is completely skitty she is so crazy she ran into a bike and a tree has had numerous operations cos she slices her skin open, her eyesight is fine she is jsut very excitable.

AS a former owner of a wonderful Rotti, I beg you, DO NOT KENNEL THIS DOG OUTSIDE. This is one breed that will definitely be hurt from this type of treatment.

If you do not have the time to properly spend with this dog, loving it and training it, try to find a good home for her. If you bought her froma a reputable breeder, he/she may be able to help you with either training or re-homing.

If you do spend a lot of time with her, but she is just destructive when you go out for a bit, then consider crating her INSIDE while you are out ( no more than a few hours).

Please, do what's best for this dog; if you are gone long hours everyday, she is likely being destructive because she is anxious and afraid. Imagine how she will feel if all of a sudden she is left alone for hours on end OUTSIDE in a CAGE>

BTW.... Dog training classes are not meant to train the dog, they are meant to train the human. Don't blame the dog for not learning at class... usually a dog is misbehaved if the owner(s) fail to do their "homework"

housebreaking former outside kennel dog?

Lisa

I am getting a 6 mo.old collie who has been in an outside kennel. He will be living inside with me and my 4 little dogs.Any hints on housebreaking??? I have never purchased a dog who lived in a kennel before.

Answer
What a nice tale :) i am sure he will be overjoyed to be in the house with you from now on rather than a kennel. Don't worry he is still young and you can use all the puppy tricks.

This can be used in conjunction with crate training see http://www.teachingpuppies.com/crate-training-my-puppy
Good luck :D
